HELP!!Vortigunt doesnt give me any bugbait

I`m on the level where he tries to give me the tutorial on how to use the bugbait, however he tells me not to delay and throw it into the pit, but I dont have any bugbait. HELP!!!!!!!!!!

You need to get the bugbait when he pulls it out of the Giant antlion you killed. When he pulls it out you need to step over the dead Antlion and pick it up.
