Alright, so I'm in the "Build Programs" section in Hammer and I can't find the executables for HLCSG, HLBSP, HLVIS, and HLRAD.

I see all of those folders in my ZHLT but none contain an exe file. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: And why can I not just use the .exe files already located in ...\Valve Hammer Editor\tools\ ?

This sounds like a HL1 mapping question. For HL2 you should be using CST and have a different set of executables. You wouldn't be able to choose a CSG executable at all in HL2.

But, the solution: you have to download ZHLT (HL1) or CST (HL2) from amckern's site, unzip all of the files into a folder of your choice, then declare them in the Build Programs tab.

You need to use the custom compile tools because, in HL1, Valve's default tools suck. They suck so much that they're almost unusable. Won't even allow spaces in folder names, so you can forget about mapping from the "Valve Hammer Editor" folder.

The problem is less pronounced in HL2, but the custom tools still add some speed and nice features. And eventually I'm going to get amckern to mark every error with a bright and bold ERROR so that mapping nublies can check their own logs for problems. :)
