Help!

Hey I have a collectors edition of Hl2 and when i go too put the disc in neither of my cd drives detect it, I have tried installing from steam but when i enter my registration key it says it must be installed form the disc, I have also tried a friends collectors edition disc but it still doesnt work, please help

yeah a dvd and a cd drive i have tried both

Ive just tried to polish both cd's with some cd polish, still no good...:hmph:
