Hello i would really appreciate it if someone refered or helped me with a problem i am having. I have xsi and i have finished a weapons model..now my problem is putting it ingame i can make props but i dont know how to export weapons right..i use normal hl2 hands and set them in the right spot holding on to the gun..this is where i am lost. i assign a bone to each of the parts of my gun then export it but in model viewer after i compile it..the gun is not there and the hands are in normal position..could anyone tell a good place where to find out how to export weapons from xsi...

ok well to get used to this your best bet is to look in the sourcesdk_content/hl2/weapons or sumit n in the pistol folder load up the scen file in xsi. export the weightmap. delete the gun polys and put your gun there. then merge and click all so u get the textures. now freeze all transforms and import the weightmap to your mesh. and adjust it to make sure its all right. now export the reference smd. and compile it with the original animation smds. and check it out ingame.

because ive used both and i find xsi easyer for use with hl2 seeing as it was actualy used to make the content in hl2 and the fact that the mod tool was released specifically for hl2 and there is lots of documentation and files specifically aimed at helping you to understand how to rig and export models to use in-game.

i wanted to post the same problem, but im using max. dont want to hijack youre post. i know how to make a prop... must i decompile a weapon. delete the old wepaon. put my weapon in the same place where the old weapon was. weight paint the weapon to the bone of the old weapon and then export it with some rotation -45 ?

thats odd because for the most part anyone who has put a prop or replacement model in source has used 3dsmax. note: how i said "for the most part"
and in any case i doubt u actually used 3dsmax for all that long because u dont seem to be able to relate to most of the terms i use when talking about it.

which terms exactly. and i disagree with that first coment dear reginald

i'd rather not ....and i dont want to hijack this thread i was just offering som advise max in my opinion is far more efficient than xsi in its modeling workflow and exporting because its tools are not made by the devs and are updated far more frequently.

Yah but I don't want to use max...and I really don't want to learn to model in a entirely new program..*sigh can noone point me to a good tut*

well no because there isnt one. do you use msn messenger i can explain the process in great detail.

I added you to me contact list...by the way could I just pm you my email address and and you could send me a email cuase it would be nice to have something to refer to if I am ever in trouble.

Could you post the emailed/messaged in-depth description here, to help others?

yes. yes i am.

well we talked on msn. but if anyone wants help with anything. especially if its got to do with xsi then im allways willing to help. my email and msn is [email protected]
