Hi all, I'm obviously here cos I have a prob with HL2, thanx for bearing with me.
I had to reload XP recently and wiped my drive because it was crashing all the time, so far so good, before this I was running HL2 no probs, when I try and reload it I get this message which means fanny adams to me....
This happens even before it starts to install properly

"Error in custom action. The library C:\WINDOWS\048298C9A4D3490B9FF9A9238F3.TMP\WiseCustomCalla4.dll is invalid or
cannot be found"

Can someone tell me what it means and what I need to do about it
Many thanks

BTW I am actually a big fan of HL2 as it runs really well on a mediocre spec pc and is completely absorbing, just want to get it back now

Welcome to the wonderful world of PC gaming. I once got the message 'error: no error'. :dozey:

It sounds like something went wrong when you installed windows...wipe/format/reinstall? You could also try googling the filename of that dll to find out what it does and if it's important.

I've googled it without much sucess, I think your right, its probably an XP installation prob, can I repair witout wiping everything out....again?
cheers for the replies

Unfortunately for you, joe, I suck. Completely and entirely. I suck at the technical side of computers. If you've got a second hard drive or large disc-type device (such as a dinner plate or oak desk), if the giggle wurlitzer is tuned correctly and the wind is blowing in the right direction you could of course use it to back up everything you want before you re-explode your hard drive.

Otherwise the answer is no.
It's probably an XP installation error but you probably want to be sure. Wait until someone more competent than me posts, or petition a mod to move this to the hardware forum where the majority of the techie crowd hang out (as opposed to the spammy crowd that hang out here :P ).

Er, I know there's a site out there for downloading missing .dlls...

The problem (according to a friend) is that when you get the right .dll, it turns out you're also missing a billion others. The easiest way to do it is probably a reinstall, tbh...

anyway, hi!
