Hey, does anyone know where I can buy myself a copy of the soundtrack for HL 2?

Or even better, if anyone has it, let me know, all I want is track 24 on the CD, I think its called "You are not supposed to be here", but I cant find it (or the CD) anywhere

any help available?

Its easy, download microsoft. NET frameworks 1.1 from the microsoft website and install.

Download the GCF scape someone else suggested, and install it.

Go through your steam files until you find the .GCF file called source sounds. Open it by right clicking it and using GCFscape or just double click.

Find the file called music, and highlight all the songs in there and 'extract' them to a file in your documents or desktop...wherever. Its very simple.

If you want the soundtrack on a CD, you'll need to buy the gold pack...you don't have the game so go for it. If you have a warezed version which is why you've played it alot and can't do it, then go die :) If it was around a mates house, ask him to follow the steps above if he'd be so kind, and burn you a CD. Its really very simple.

Oh and eatbugs check your inbox.

Believe it or not, the Half-Life 2 soundtrack is actually copyrighted music, so no requesting is allowed.

Buy the soundtrack or buy the game. The gold edition contains the soundtrack CD, it doesn't seem to be sold separately.

Ok, my apologies. I cant find the soundtrack anywhere, and im not gonna spend nearly 80 bucks for the gold edition for just a CD (my PC cant run the game, so that'd just be wasted money unfortunately :()

It's an amazing soundtrack. The right track in the right place makes all the difference in the mood.

Like at the start of "Black Mesa East" when you make it past the dam, the melancholic, riffy track with big reverb (HL1 song20) comes in... if you're into the game, it all makes sense. Since Black Mesa East is outside of City 17, it's in a part of the world that's deemed to be uninhabitable no-man's-land, and the track adds to the effect that you're now entering a place that used to be warm and full of life but is now desolate and empty. A wasted, hollowed-out shell of what it used to be, like most of the planet. It creates a sense of loss.

All good music evokes feelings, and all games that are of worth attempt to evoke feelings within the player. So, all games of worth need good music.

[edit]: Unless they're the kind that prefer no music, for realism...

Speaking of the soundtrack.. I noticed after I pulled all of those music files with GCFScape that there is no "Valve Theme" music (the one that plays when you put the suit on).. Or am I just missing it?

Your missing it, theres a 'valve theme' song on the intro, and another one called 'suit song' i think in the extra bit after the track number. Have a look again.

The "SuitSong" is the track that plays when you emerge from the mines after making it through Ravenholm... when you come across the station by the coast, and finish helping the rebels beat back a Combine assault.

The track Carini's after is "HL1 song11".

Yes, the Valve Theme is HL1_song 11.

Also, the "suit song" is HL1_song 10.

you can also rip the songs off of the half-life1 game disk and the opposing force game disk.

I have my collector's edition DVD but it's not installed at the moment (blame studying for my CPA exam).

Can you get it off the DVD? If so, is it a moreso complicated process? Thanks!
