HL1 chronology, internally consistent?

I was thinking about HL1's chronology the other day. I've always admired the way in which Hl2's three day (and one lost week) chronology is portrayed in the game, but this may have been necessitated by it's large number of outdoor environments. In HL1, by comparison, you spend so much time inside that's it's hard to tell what's going on timewise. Indeed, it's part of what makes the clsoing scene of On a Rail effective--you haven't been outdoors for so long that you can almost taste the fresh air. Does that scene mark the end of Gordon's first day? It was at night, IIRC? In contrast, Residue processing and Surface Tension clearly take place during the day, presumably the same day. Come to think of it, I don't remember the brief outdoor scenes in FAF being at night either.

Maybe it's all a moot point, since the whole thing goes topsy turvey with Gordon's trip to XEN.

Thoughts on this appreciated.

I've read that HL1 takes place over just over two days. I don't really know though.
