sorry, but i didnt know where else to put this.

so i got a new computer for christmas, very nice. But i try running it on half life, nice, but i accidently set the settings to "OPENGL" and now my game wont run. When i first set it, it crashed. so i just restarted the game and guess what. the settings are STILL SET THE SAME, and every time i load HL, it crashes and i cant change the settings

so heres 2 things

1: why does it crash on opengl?
2: how can i change the settings without opening the game?

1. I don't know sorry
2. You can but I'm not sure on the command. Right click on half-life in steam>properties>set launch options. But like I said, I don't know what to type in there :/ Someone else on here will know though ;)

heres system specs for those who need to know:
Processor: Intel Pentium D CPU 3.00 GHZ (2 CPUs,) ~3.0GHz
Memory:3072MB Ram
DirectX 9.0c
Nvidia Geforce 6600 256MB Memory

No idea why it crashes in OpenGL mode.
Try adding this in the place Sam-2k suggested:
-vid_d3d 1
or:
+vid_d3d 1

none of these even work. any way i can just reset my HL1 video settings, and before this happened. I tried OpenGL and it says its not compatible so then it restarts set to "software"

then in windowed mode it makes the game crash.

didnt work either, currently i am deleting my half life local content files just to see if it works.

*EDIt*

OK this is just PISSING me off, i REINSTALLED MY HALF LIFE (UNINSTALLED THEN INSTALLED) then update and RUN IT
what do i get? THE SAME CRASH.

It's a bit odd... try scanning the Windows registry, look for Valve//Half-Life, there should be an entry called "Engine" - change it's value to something else (should be something like: 0 = software, 1 = opengl, 2 = direct3d - not necessarily in that order).
Can't help further, it's been ages since I played Half-Life.
