HL2 Crashing at loading screen!!! Help

Hi.

For some reason steam started crashing when any options were clicked on, so i reinstalled the whole lot, and now it just sticks on the first loading screen. Any ideas?

Thats the hl2 loading screen if i wasnt clear. ( which i wasnt)

If you've already tried re-installing the game, I would recommend downloading the latest drivers for your videocard, soundcard, and/or motherboard, then uninstalling your current ones, rebooting and installing the new drivers. Wouldn't hurt to do the same thing with Directx come to think of it. Uninstall whatever Directx you've got and then go download the latest and install that.

If none of that works....*shrug* go into safemode and try to restore your system to a previous state. Or just reformat. Good luck.

Its weird because it was working fine before and i dont think ive changed anything vital...

what type of video card do you have? I used to have the same problem because I thought that my computer's Intel Extreme Graphics would handle HL2, but I was sooooooooooooo wrong. I had to buy a Radeon Video card for it to work.

Go to the properties of the HL2 shortcut your using (don't launch from Steam) and add -console onto the end of the target directory

not the card cause it was working before.. It does the valve intro thingy, but freezes when it gets to the loading screen where its the blurred scenery.

It must have a problem loading the maps.
