HL2 demo

i wanna download the demo for HL2 on my pc but Steam won't let me cos i dont have enough RAM

I've played games before that i dont have enough RAM for even though the lag is unreal....

Is there anywhere i can download it from? Websites etc?

The reason i want it is because i wanna see the detail for myself and how it owns the Xbox's detail which im sure it does but i dont want pics or videos i wanna experience it for myself.....

Could you tell us what happens exactly to prevent you playing the demo? Is it the message on Steam that comes up, as that should only be a warning, that you don't have enough and shouldn't stop you being able to play the demo outright. Then you should be to tell how much of an impact it has on gameplay. I can tell you now it's not going to be pretty. If you are interested in gaming on your PC I must tell you that a better computer will be necessary. If funds permit, then stick with consoles (although the most fun is had over here )

The lag is unreal...? The... lag... is unreal? It's... unreal? Oh I doubt it will be unreal this time. :| I would recommend getting more RAM, but I see you don't want to. Even you run it with everything on low, you are going to change everything to high, because you want to compare them. Well it will probably crash.

Ok, I've finished laughing now. Few questions:

1 - How do you even have WINDOWS running properly with such a small amount of RAM, let alone games / programs?

2 - You have around 290 posts here at HL2.net, but NOW you are about to get the DEMO of the game that this site is for? What have your 290 posts been about? What made you join up here if you have neither the game, NOR a PC that can run anything more complex than notepad? I mean, I wouldn't go and sign up at "HomeOwners.com" without actually owning a Home, or being able to discuss the highs and lows of owning one.

3 - If you KNOW your PC is crap (and I'd hate to see the other specs like processor speed etc), then why on earth would you even be TRYING to get a game that is still one of the top of it's class to run on a PC that even YOU know was BOTTOM of the rung five years ago? That's like asking if you can enter your 1979 Datsun 180b in last years NASCAR, and THEN to top it off asking if anyone knows how to get it working. Use your head, boy.

Calm down yourself - I never got worked up about it, and I never said he wasn't allowed to, or told him to gtfo etc. I just basically said it seemed REALLY bizarre...

And a 200Mhz CPU and a Riva TNT graphics card as well I suppose. Whatever, dude. You're talking BS unless your idea of 'OK' is all settings at lowest, 640x480 and 15pfs frame rate.

The only reason i haven't upgraded to 512 RAM is because funds haven't permitted but now we're getting a new pc soon because my parents both have better jobs now. I have played HL2 but on the Xbox where the detail is really crappy and everyone goes on about how it kicks ass on the PC so I'm not going for the gameplay, (despite what any previous posts by me have claimed) but im going just to experience what the graphics are but as i have stated before i dont want pics, movies etc. Yes the lag will be awful and i think Steam did restrict me (i havent checked again yet).

But anyway i cant be arsed waiting for a new PC to arrive so im trying it out here and now regardless of whether it crashes my PC and nukes my house to teh shiz. And the obly reason im geting the demo is because im not gonna go and buy a game that will barely work on my PC

I've done quite well though with this PC over the past 8 years, i download just as much as the next person with a decent PC and 7gb has managed to last me 8 years. Probably cos i don't download pr0n just view it there and then. My friend has 5gb of porn on his PC.......I've seen it for myself D: SO MUCH BUTTSECKS!!!

i would be surprised if it ran on your pc. Also to add to the detail and preety graphics....if your planning to run it on there then the xbox will look much better.
