ok i got a new computer. its a dell and its fast. the only game that dont work is HL2. why is this. i installed it 3 times. you all know how long thhat takes. sory but i dont know what kind of dell but its black, short, and small. if any one knows lots about computers plz help me. ;(

Its not a matter of knowing a lot about computers, but you can only own one licensed version of Half-Life 2.

So I'm guessing that the license expired once you changed computers....

Eh? It's tied to your Steam account and you can play Half-Life 2 on any computer in the world providing you have your account details and the patience (or CD) to download/install the game files.

Surely you know that by now.

head_crabs, I'm sorry mate but you have told us absolutely nothing at all. Being good with computers means nothing. Gabe Newell wouldn't even be able to fix it with the info you've just given :p

We need some background information. What happens when you try to run Half-Life 2? If anything in particular happens (such as an error message) write the exact error message down and tell us what it is.

Also, you surely have some packaging that came with the computer that will tell us what type of Dell it is. If you don't have that information you will have something somewhere that tells us what speed the processor is (this is measured in GHz), the amount of RAM (this is measured in MB) and the type of graphics card (this is usually nVidia or ATI).

Cheers.

EDIT: Just for your information: All Dell computers are black, short and small :p

And they have "beefy computers" written on the side and when you shoot them parts fly out :P

no no. i never had HL2. i got a new computer and the same day i got HL2. so i never installed it anywere else

I could try to help if you can find some system specs. One way of finding out is going to: Start -> All Programs -> Accessories ->System Tools -> Systeminformation. Use the tabs on the left to navigate the pages. Then post back with RAM, Processor, Motherboard and most importantly Videocard (components -> Display) it is the first thing shown at the top.

ok, when i try to run it it works fine up untill the main menu. at the main menu its a blurry and it stays that way untill it beeps then shuts off. thats it. thats all it does

Heres what we need from you.

An exact things that you do, and the exact error messages it gives you.

i can tell you one thing though. it says something about videocard i think
ill check my system specs now

i cant find any of that stuff
i play the game but i got to go in a different computer that my dads always on. i got this new computer to play this game but it dont work in my room

I am guessing you either dont have DX9 installed, no drivers or a DX 6 videocard from your vague description. Need more info!

This is hilarious, look at that other thread this guy started

LOL, it was a joke but it dont work for me no more. i cant read my own thread
