Between the theft last year and the new information coming out just prior to E3 this year, these forums went through a really dry spell, and everything was really dull regarding anything new being discussed, now that E3 has been and gone, all that's changed and the community is buzzing again.

I can't remember the last time I saw hundreds of people (300+) browsing this forum until about month ago and that just makes these forums a better place.

Anyway now I've reassured everyone that I'm as bit a HL2 fanboy as the next forumite, here's the real meat of my posting...

...I've watched the 700mb E3 (2004) movie to an excessive amount and am really hyped about what everyone's talking about, ie: this game looks s@*& hot, and everyone's talking about what's GREAT about HL2...

...however in the interest of having a constructive and balanced opinion of HL2, here's some things I hope Valve consider for the next iteration of the Source engine;

Lighting and 'sprite' effects spilling through or around the edge of walls, this problem has been with FPS since as long as I can remember (I started on Wolf 3D back in the day). It's one of those things that all 3D engine creators seem to have suffered from and not addressed, so there's obviously a very good reason why, but I kind of feel it may be one of those things they either;

a) can't be arsed to address
b) is far too difficult to cure with current rendering technology
c) because of b) they a)

Valve seem to have re-used the chirping sound from the 'sonic hounds' in HL1 for the roller mines seen in the buggy section. It's the most annoying thing to listen to during that section of the movie, but then that's just me.

I think that they are aware of every bug that we could possibly see from that video :p

The good things will outweigh the bad things.

Sounds pretty fair to me,, I hope they can be arsed to deal with the smaller problems for a final polish :cool:
