Ok, here it goes...

I started half life up today because I was bored.
It looks different that it used to, the sunlight I mean.
Maybe I'm just losing my mind..I don't know.
Look at my screenshots and let me know what you think.
Has the lighting always looked like this, or am I just losing my mind?

I'm pretty sure it always looked like that. But I've not played through HL2 in a long time so i'm not sure.

Can't say for sure but the light from the sun does seem to fill up more of the screen than it used to...meh

That's WAY diff. I did a photo run of HL2 (get as many SS's as possible) maybe a month ago, and the sun wasn't as vibrant as that.

And correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the ground in the second pic look sorta like the ground in those HDR demos of Lost Coast?

Might our prayers have been answered? might Lost Coast be soon comming?

</cornieness>

That's what I was thinking...HDR or some varient of it.
Maybe I am crazy..but I think it's different somehow.

The big deal is, I don't remember seeing this sort of effect before.
I just want to know if I'm imagined this.
I think I'll just get some sleep instead.

the water doesn't look as rippled, and the bloom is brighter in your screnshot wickerdude, but i dont think its a variant of HDR- tehe

Perhaps VALVe sneaked them in with the new engine update.

Teehee. Those sneaky beastards :upstare:

Hmmm interesting...

Though I bet VALVe would say something like this, just to get us all playing it and testing it out.

Is it just me or does the sun look like it's actually SETTING? (not just a static sky)
I never noticed that! I have noticed how bright the sun has gotten. It sometimes blinds me from aiming.

In CS:S the other day on Cs_compound, the bloom was so bright it was hard to play, I have no idea how it got like that.

only thing i have noticed thats differnt, it isnt for the better. My water on water hazard doest have a shore line like it used to at least thats what i remember. The water used to run up the shore partly so u could see the ground under the water for a couple feet, now it just stops instantly and looks like a black line almost, any thoughts to why? link to pics here

I think it's your video card. :( Never seen that on my HL2, even when playing the Substance Mod.

Im guessing you guys reckon this was from an update off steam?
Have there been any such updates ever announced? I dont know of any, so im just asking- dont take it the wrong way.
I keep my hl2 offline atm, so i wouldn't get any pretty graphics improvements :(

I think its mat_bloom got turned on somewhere along the line....

You're all paranoid.
Seriously, There was thread similar to this awhile ago.

Since I wanted to see what's the fuss about, I turned on Half-Life 2, loaded up Water Hazard and played it. The glare and bloom effects remain the same. One should also know that the bloom might increase if you tune up your settings, and if you mess around with mat_bloom console command.

I think you're all having Paranoicum Lostum Coasticum. :D

I had the same problem, BrimStone04, a few days ago.

No idea - I even tried different video drivers and nothing helped. I also had some odd problems on shaders, like on the Combine Shield or when looking up from underwater - I've seen millions of colorful artifacts. Reloading the chapter from New Game helped, something was wrong with the savegames...
