since this is the spoilers section, im assuming i dont need spoiler warnings. in either case, if you havent finished the game, do NOT download this movie. it contains the ending. not the entire final battle or anything, but you have been warned.

just a collection of stuff i thought was cool about the game, so some of it's a bit slow. some airboat jumps, Dog, etc...

Half Life 2 - Beginning to End 170mb 12:17 runtime

enjoy...

cool dl now,
i'd love to see a movie from start to finish of hl2, uncut and unedited!
it would probly have to be 8 gigs and 16 hours long tho!
it would be werth the dl time and space tho!

you could probably play it in 8-12 hours if you rushed, and it wouldn't have to be 8 gigs... with low quality you could get it to 1 or 2 probably.

actually ill be doing something similar to exactly that. obviously not the entire thing, but at least like the main battles of each episode.

but the perfectionist in me wont let me do any less of a quality movie as this one, which i used .wmv for, so people wouldnt need to worry about codecs. and to me the quality is horrid in this. well not horrid, i just threw it in windows movie maker and that's what it churned out. perfectly acceptable, by all means, but using xvid and the same bitrate the quality improvement is very noticeable, to me, anyway. with xvid you can still the grass blades and stuff, where as .wmv just tends to blob it all up and mix it with the browns of the dirt, etc. (again, had i not pointed this out, most people would never notice, but i do...lol)

ahh the sacrifices of mass distribution...

so do I, I'm a machinima maker :D

I'm extracting now, just finished the download.

The HL1 record is 40 minutes. What do you think HL2's will be?

Nice video. I liked when you threw the combine into the air and got him spinning in the citadel. Then he bounced pretty high when he hit the ledge. lol

there aleady is another thread about that, but nobody bothered reading it =P

I'm sure that with all the tricks people are discovering right now we will have a HL2 speed run in about 2 hours or at most 2:30 to drop our jaw.

im rather nibbish when it comes to these speed videos. but to me, i dont think they accurately reflect how fast someone beat the game.

seems to me it's just a compilation of how fast he beat each level.

i say this only because of how demos record. alot of the new episodes he's at a complete standstill and starts a new demo, indicated by the ammo supplying sound. but being at a complete standstill is what does it.

as in my video when i changelevel off the dam it's almost seamless. because when you changelevels it starts recording a new demo for you.

so either he messes up and goes back and starts another demo or dies. so in essence, it took him much longer than the time stated to finish the game.

if there were seamless changelevels then i'd be more convinced that someone could beat it in one sitting like that in that kind of time.

but again, im no pro on speed demos, so maybe that's acceptable.

i see no reason to start a new demo on a changelevel if hl2 does it for you.

i was gonna do this using fraps, it screws my framerate tho, capturing at half height from 1024x768 (ie. video is 512x384) fps is around 20ish (from an average of prolly 50 or so)

and btw, thats capturing to a different hdd, i dunno whats gonna happen if ur capturing to the same hdd as halflife is on

if i do it ill have to do so in sections between the loading screens, cos at that res capturing with fraps, 3 minutes of video chewed up a gig (before conversion) iirc.

imho, if you use fraps you shouldnt go above 800. preferably 640. then just capture at full size.

i use in game stuff. and i capture at 1024. then run a batch in PS to resize them to 640 before compiling the avi. takes longer but it's worth it.

resizing in videomach just ends up looking like crap.

the only reason i havnt used the ingame demo recording, then bitmap conversion etc. is that i assume it doesnt record an accompanying audiofile when it makes the bitmaps right ?

Gotta have the sound of zombie being shot point blank in face with shotgun :)

in the past, no it didnt. now the startmovie command captures sound in a .wav file.

i have onboard sound and fraps always sounds like crap. the .wav files are near perfect.

there's a thread in the cs:s section on movies. really only 3 basics.

host_framerate 30
startmovie name
endmovie

more details in the other thread. goes for all source games.
