Only a couple of comments from me...
Yes, there is a LOT of banding. This is because many games got the same total score. This wouldn't have happened if more people had participated, as more votes would have spread things out a bit. 67 people out of hundreds of active members is a bit disappointing (especially when the discussion of the IGN reader's poll stretched to 7 pages), but thanks to everyone who took a few minutes to compose their list! Ok, moaning over!

The top two games aren't going to surprise anyone, but that was never the point, it was to show that we as a collective have more discriminating tastes than revealed by the IGN user's poll, and that doesn't just mean giving the Half-Life saga big props. It certainly achieved that.

Tom

Oh yeah: There's actually 107 games here. That's because 9 games were banded together after the 98th, and it wouldn't be fair to drop any of them.

Let the flamewars begin!

That's a damned excellent list. Thanks for putting it together. You should email it to IGN and call them fruit bats.

I fail to see how cs:s is at a better position than the thief games. Oh, and MGS2 beats WoW? (the most successful mmo ever created?) As good as MGS2 was, i don't think it should beat WoW.

ewwww why is pacific assult on there. that was one of the worst medal of honors ever made.

Just because a game is successful doesn't mean it's great. *cough* Sims *cough*

Bleh at HL2 being #1 but that was a given on this site.

EDIT: KOTOR being that high? No f*cking way! Just because it was one of the few RPGS to actually make it to pc doesn't mean it's great. I hated that game.

MoHPA, i think, was pretty good. The weapons felt really nice, especially the rifles, and they tried their best to create that band of brothers type of relationship with the player/NPCs. Although it's an EA game, it was actually pretty good.

The thing you have to bear in mind here, is that not everyone who voted has experience of gaming going back to classics from the 80s and 90s.

If everyone here had played every game on the list, the order would be enormously different! :)

Thats a pretty damn good list.

Deus Ex should be 1st but besides that ;)

We're going to get the shit flamed outta us when a Halo site sees this.

HL2 should definitely not be #1 maybe somewhere between #20-#10. Half-Life should be number 1!!

I hate you all, Thief: the Dark Project and The orignal DOOM didn't make the list.

.....and Halo did
Ya'll sicken me

And wheres "Sam & Max"? Or Bloodlines? Warcraft II? (which was better than the 3rd, even though it was splendid)

Uriel...you didn't nominate ANY games, so how can you expect your favourites to be on there? If you had voted, and voted for Doom, it would've been in there. As it is, it's just outside the list at 108.

Saw the results of the poll before I saw the poll where the voting actually took place.
Although, more interested in the opinions of others and the specific game they chose out of a series.
Like DOOM3, Warcraft III & Thief.
....you guys really like the 2nd Thief more than the original?

Although Sam and Max should have been mentioned by others, atleast Monkey Island was up there.

MGS2 is wayyyy too high on this list.

Other than that though, big thumbs up!

Congratulations to HL2.net for making a list slightly less wrong than the IGN list :p

Post where the games you voted for ended up?

Final Placing / How you voted

1 / 1 - Half-Life 2
2 / 6 - Half-Life
3 / 5 - Deus Ex
12 / 2 - System Shock 2
23 / 3 - Homeworld
29 / 8 - Unreal Tournament [1999 - PC]
47 / 7 - Final Fantasy VI
77 / 4 - Final Fantasy Tactics

Zelda OOT-4
Counter Strike-11
Half Life 2-1
Super Smash Bros. Melee-62
Metroid Prime-39
Pokemon Blue-N/A(I f*ckin give up on this forum)
Halo-31
Mario Kart DS-N/A
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City-8
Katamari Damacy-N/A

No wonder you only got 67 votes, since this is the 1st I've heard about it.

The list sucks. HL2 shouldn't be 1st, and Max Payne 1 should be above 2. No Broken Sword games? No Starfox/Starwing.

You all need banned, killed, exhumed, then banned again.

Only if you voted for Halo

Still am shocked more people didnt go GaGa over Bloodlines, it was such a GOOD game. Few bugs but cmon, BF2142 has more

Remember that we only chose 10 games each. There were loads of games I would liked to have mentioned (SS2, Planescape, BG2, FF6, Mario Kart, Bomberman, Syndicate, Populous ..... and on and on), but they didn't quite make my final list.

For all we know Starfox or Broken Sword (or any other game that you feel is absent) would have been everyone's no.11 - and would therefore have appeared higher than many of the other games present.

Personally, i'm most impressed that the thread remained on topic and didn't become a flame war :)

Nice to see some N64 game make the top 10 by the way btw, and not suprising to see HL2 grab the top spot (this being a HL2 forum ;))

FORUM LISTS R SERIOUS BUSINESS!

Damnit, that was over fast, didn't get a chance to vote :p

Good stuff (from browsing the top 20)... HL is so best game though. HL2 wins best sequel :)

I wish I would have had a chance to vote, but this is a really cool thing you've done. And the list is actually not half bad.

HL1...shouldn't really be 2nd. HL2 deserves top spot, but Deus Ex should really be second. Goldneye in the top 10? I'm going to puke.
Otherwise...not a bad list, though I can't understand why Quake 4 is in the top 100.

Well, I guess I could have left it open longer, but I don't think that would have made any difference as, despite a bump by myself, by the sixth day the voting thread had sunk onto the second page of the General Gaming forum. Nothing else I could have done myself, if it had been stickied in the forum or made a news item that would've helped. Don't blame me if you don't notice a thread that runs for more than a week, though.

Saw the results of the poll before I saw the poll where the voting actually took place.

Ah, fair enough

Although Sam and Max should have been mentioned by others, atleast Monkey Island was up there.

Well, it is already saturated with LucasArts games, no?

Now THAT is a damn good list.

Dungeon Keeper and Cossacks both on it. :D They deserve it.

Great list! Mario, Goldeneye and Zelda in the top 10, nice.

If we could make another list, stickied this time, left open for a longer amount of time...?

I'm kinda dissapointed

......Bitches
*waits for infraction

Bloodlines was good, but it wasn't THAT good.

I would've put it in the top 30 atleast.

There was plenty wrong with it(gun combat being a total pain in the ass, every melee weapon handles the same, crashing randomly, physics acting wonky, etc.)

If we could make another list, stickied this time, left open for a longer amount of time...?

Erm, I think it'd be better to leave it till this time next year. I don't think people who have already posted would be too happy about doing it all over again. And tbh compiling it all was more work than I'd anticipated so :rolling: I'm not keen to repeat the task straight away. Something like this takes trial and error to get it right. I'll prepare a bit more next time...

Ooh, let multiple people work on the compiling bit next time as well!

*pick me, pick me!*

Maybe you should go around asking companies/magazines how they do their lists. I mean, they've got experience too. ^ ^
