HL2 on low-end PCs?!

ok, i've never heard anything like this before, but this one guy told me that HL2 graphics will be able to be lowered so much that it will run on machines from the days of HL1 (e.g. crappy computers). I wouldn't normally believe it, but he is a guy who knows what he's talking about; so i'm confused, and i dont want to buy a game i cant run nicely. anyhow, is this true or what?

If he's talking about things like a 233MHz Pentium 2, then no, absolutely not.

Last I heard, the reccommended minimum was a 1 GHz processor, and a DirectX 7 graphics card. RAM I'm not sure about.

in an interview with GAME, Gabe Newell stated the min. specifications are win98 or later, pentium-III 800mhz and a DX-6 level graphics accelerator

they'd probably barely run it on the old min specs really... crappy, but run it. I know a guy below the doom3 min specs who runs it[doom3] fairly well, so I figure companies tend to overshoot em a bit(probably so people don't bitch, just in case they meet them and it breaks)

Yeah,

Like settings in options edit both graphics and cpu load, because if u set trees to minimum for exmple, the cpu doesnt have to think about all th branches, and the graphics doesnt have to render them.

However things like AI and source are so advanced and required (cant be toned down) that you'l need a good cpu just to get them to work never mind graphics on top.

So nothing below minspec

condition zero lags so badly on my computer!
