HL2 still amazes me...

I've played it a million times, and still, every time I play, I find something I missed before. It took me forever to actually witness Alyx being caught. I guess after she says "Agh, no!" and turns around for a sec, I always rushed off to the tunnel.
I was trying for the Lambda Locator achievement and I found like three places I'd not seen before, and I was still missing EIGHT.

One thing completely blew my mind this last time I played through, that I had somehow missed/not noticed before. Before you start chasing Breen at the end, Judith says, "You don't have much time; he's headed for the portal." and gives you the data packet. Now, before I noticed this, I had always thought Alyx just *had* the data packet on her. Like, I thought it was just one of the gadgets she carried around on her belt. I was always iffy about Judith's loyalty in the games, but now that I've noticed this, I know she's been a good guy the whole time! Because, y'know, why would she have given you that otherwise. I really like Judith now.

Er, I'm sure this is prolly all old news and I apologize. Anyone else have similar experiences?

I've played this game way too much. My favourite bit is when you hold off the Combine assault as you destroy the generator in Anticitizen One.

I've always loved the fact that the helicopter has missiles, yet prefers to just pew pew at you with its spreadpopgun and infinite supply of mines.

I wonder how Alyx got her gun back in Episode One though. It's not like she had it on her. Maybe the Vortigaunts stuffed it in her pocket.

At the start of Ep1 she'd been about looking for for a bit hadn't she? Plently time to get hooked up with a new gun (in gameworld terms).
HL2 is great and yes my last playthrough I saw stuff I'd previously missed too. There's alot packed in.

Whaaat b-b-b-but the climactic strider battles...! One of the things I replay the game for... (something I've done well over half a dozen times now).

Edit: Whoops, missed the fact that you said the Nexus building. Still, worth playing through every time IMO.

I agree. HL1 has a unique gameplay compared to HL2 and episodes. Less action, more crawling and exploring. It has its own flavor and delivers you a chilly experience. A masterpiece!

I agree with all - Valve did a great job at packing in so much. No wonder they decided to span it out for 3 episodes! Apparently hl2 and all the episodes were supposed to be one game - but they had to take down the size, so they split it up...

Imagine if they didn't? we woulda had to wait even longer for it to come out.

AMEN to that! To be quite honest, I think it's STILL my favourite one to play. It still seems so much fresher than the any of the new ones. And much more brutal as well.
