Hi,..

i really wondered when i buy this thing via steam, i can still make back-up copies of the game..

if i cant im just going to buy this thingy in the stores.
and the pre-load of 1.01GB i can remember Gabe Newell said something about a 2GB hl2 copy.

so that means they are only able to load 1 part of hl2.

speculations.

1. They plan this because they dont want the servers to have non-stop largerer downloads going on. this way, it'll go faster with downloading.

2. This is the only buy free part and the other part is yet to be tested and will preload mid september.

what do you think.. *dont flame* - *harhar*

Yes, you can make a backup of your Steam cache files for any game. If the file is too large to fit on one CD, just use a program like WinZip that will allow you to span multiple discs.

The reason it isn't the whole game is because these files are definately not going to change. They aren't finished tweaking the game as of yet, and have kept back files that they might change before releasing.

i will probably buy the game then.. DVD version.. because i can make copy's easier. to add them to my collection :E

no!, i think they finally want to keep some promisses and give us 1 part of halflife that will be unimporant. like fonts and screens.
i think they will just scew us again.. and release it nowhere near mid september :O

how does that work? how does winzip let you burn a big file on multiple discs. I've got some big files I'd like to burn but do not have a dvd burner yet.

Also, how does the cache file work? if you download it via steam then lets say your hard drive kicks the bucket and you reinstall steam. I'm pretty sure the steam network will recognize your account as having the game and you could re-download it for free right? but if you don't want to wase the time. how do you transform the cache file back into the game? is it like the game.exe where you just click it to install?

They're not out to screw you. They're just doing their job, and that job is to finish the game, however long it takes.
