HL2 video stutters to where its unplayable.

I have just bought HL2 a couple of days ago from steam. Then I found out it didnt come with CS Source which was one of the reasons I bought it in the first place, so I bought CS source from EB Games and it came with DOD source. All of these games just keep skiping and skipping.

Ive turned the video settings all the way down and it doesnt affect the skipping. I turned them up and it seems to skip less.

My specs are.
P4 3.06 with HT
1 gig of ram.
64 meg video card Geforce 4 5200 Go FX

My system is a Dell Inspirion 5160 laptop. I did a fresh install of windows xp home and it still just lags to where its not even playable.

I installed the latest drivers for everything, turned off all background services and programs. I got the latest video drivers and did the hack to make them work with my card and it still doesnt work.


Does anyone have any ideas? I am going to order a new Alienware laptop with AMD 64bit processor and 2 gigs of ram with a 256 meg video card, but I would love to play it on this laptop till the alienware gets here which might be a couple weeks.

Well, currently there is indeed a stuttering bug. Here is a link to a temporary fix:

Wow thanks. That sounds like it may be my fix but Im having trouble with making the shortcut.

It says to select the General Tab in the properties for your steam icon and then in the "Target" box you add -clientbeta steam3friends -beta steam3friends after steam.exe

Well In my general there is no target box, there is one in the shortcut tab, but when I add that line, it says its not valid and will not let me save it. Can someone show a little insight?
