Ok, I just hurdled $60 for DOom 3 and here are my thoughts- CLICK ME, plz

I know its pretty biased, but I am really dissapointed regarding Doom 3. No innovation...wth. Shoot this, shoot that. I can never take my time either because a there's always like 5 damn monsters in one room. Darkness... can I look at the awesome gfx...NO! Newayz- my 2 centz :dozey: Good to be home!

I am gonna have to agree. I think as a whole, HL2 is gonna beat the crap out of Doom 3. Doom 3 is kinda like a Giant tunnel. HL2 will seem more like reality as far as earth is concerned.

All I can say is that I was dissapointed in Doom 3. I have really high hopes with HL2 and will push myself to like it, just like the Doom 3 people are pushing themself to like Doom (in my opinion ).

I just bought doom 3 and I loved it... Some people may think it isn't anything but the graphics but I disagree. It has that old school feel to it like some of the old FPS's I used to play including the original doom and I think thats what they were going for. Old games like that never realy needed a good story they were just fun for the shooting and the scare. Although yes.. I think if your gonna put D3 and HL2 side by side, D3 wont even compare mostly because it is pretty much a different type of game. But whatever the case, Im still getting both so it doesn't really matter to me.

im personally one of the 'gamer people'. i take each game and evalulate what it set out to do, realizing that no game can have everything. doom3 did exactly what it set out to do, no less. i didn't have to push myself to like it, its just a frame of mind.

You either love or hate (closer to dislike) Doom 3, I suspect it will be the same for HL2.

'scary' is subjective from person to person, so they actually succeeded with many people. but of course we have the macho guys who wont even admit they were on edge when they play doom3. so we really can't draw any conclusions.

AVP2 had my adrenaline pumping, i was pretty damn terrified playing that game. But Doom 3 just doesn't do anything for me. I'm not sure why. I think iD just suck.

Press CTRL+ALT+~ to get into the console menu and then type com_showfps 1 to show fps (0 instead of 1 to turn it off).

Ya know, I have to wonder why the bashing of either game persists. I don't have Doom 3, but if I did, I'm fairly sure I would enjoy running around blasting demons in the face with a gun. When I get HL2 I will enjoy running around shooting combine scum in the face with a gun.

I think that the 2 games are uniquely different, and that comparing them to one another is fairly futile. I don't think it really matters much, either. Some people will just naturally prefer one playstyle over another. I think you should all be out shooting demons in the face rather than comparing 2 dissimilar games.

When ya get right down to the nuts and bolts of it all, you should still having fun shooting things regardless of which you prefer, hehe. Go... shoot and be happy. Someone shoot a Cacodaemon in the face for me while yer at it!

i think you are an ID hater and you had a bad experience playing doom3 because either your rig sucks or the conditions you played under werent decent for doom3.

I know people that love the last part of the matrix trilogy and I try arguing with them that it was the worst movie every and I can't even budge them. Go to the Doom 3 forum and look at how people are reacting to Doom 3 to see how different a spin they have on it.

What are you talking about? This game was the scariest game I have played in a LONG time. I like to close the doors, turn off the lights, close the blinds, turn the volume up a crap load and play it then.. First time even a door closed behind me I sware I almost pissed my pants. I know someone who said the game wasn't scary but they had turned off all the shadows and had no sound on and I was like WTF you cant play like this! Although you might be one of those rock solid "Ive seen everything" gamers so i dono :cheers:

I'm exactly with you on that man. As long as a game achieves what it set out to do or become, then what more can you ask for? I'd be foolin' myself if I thought HL2 will be a perfect game. And I'd end up dissapointed. Nothings perfect, I'll play HL2 for the game it is. You're right about Doom3 too, ID made it perfectly clear what the game would be like in it's development, if anyone was expecting something else then I'm not sure why they'd complain about it.
I couldn't have asked for anything more from Doom3 because it set out what it wanted to do, how ID wanted people to play it, what they wanted the player to experience.

I'm positive that Valve will reach the goals they set for HL2, as a gamer what more can I ask? I can't ask them to set MY goals 'cause it's their game.

That's the issue. Humans are tolerable singly or in small groups. We tend to develop more of the mob conditioning as our numbers in any one area grow. This is true of forums as well. People that would not normally feel compelled to speak out find strength in the fact that they know their opinions will be backed up by someone.

Thing is, they're still just opinions. No right or wrong about them... they are just personal preferences made in accordance with your history. Hell, my mother likes onion sandwiches. I find that bizzare, but hey, whatever floats yer boat, hehe.

I still want to try both games. I think I'll have a very definite preference when all is said and done, but I bet I enjoy both.

Yeah, I'm kinda like you with opinions lol. BTW, RE:your sig, how was the Gunslinger saga? I read part of the first one and it was very dark... I just didn't like the setting. Might I reccomend Brave New World. Changes your perspective on life kind of..
