Removed. I guess I shoulda never bothered with this one.

Wtf is this thread about fido, there is nothing wrong with this scene. It is a very clever move for Valve, making the player get very attached to the character, so much so that you care about her when she is hurt, near death or is emotionally unset. This allows the game to trick your emotions into many different states. Think about it, as you said, this scene makes you want to kill the hunter that stabbed alyx, you also said that you hate this scene because it made you upset that she was hurt.

Heck, thats Valve for you. BTW, don't expect anything nicer in Episode 3, someone else is going to die, and I bet it is either Alyx or Mossman.

You should calm down. Of course it's bad to see Alyx get hurt and you are very attached to her at this point, but not to the point that you just can't watch it and have to noclip through it. The vortigaunt says that her injuries are grave, that doesn't mean she is dead.

Oh, I know all that. I have been thru there several times now. I have played thru the entire series too many times to count. Sure its a game, but it is immersive, like you are there and these people are some sort of virtual family. Many other players feel the same way by all the reading I done. If you are a casual game player, there is no attachment, no big deal, but I'm a confessed addict! ;)

Geeeezzz, sorry I spoke up! Thought I could get something fun going here. Never mind then!

I have been thru this series many many times, since HL1 came out in 1999, I know all about Valve and how they work. NICE JOB TOO!

Episode 3, someone else is going to die,

What. No. NOOOOOOOOO ;_; I LIKE ALL THE CHARACTERS TOO MUCH ;_______________________;

It better not be Alyx or Barney. I've worked so hard to protect Alyx, and Barney owes me a Beer, damnit. I'm in love with both of them! >->

If ALyx dies it would take all the impact away from the resurrection scene. The same way the impact of the final frame would be taken away if Eli survived. Good storytelling doesn't just mean offing the characters people care about.

I have a really deep suspicion that Barney will die in Episode 3, even though he is my favourite character in the series, he will die, or Alyx, or Mossman...

Magnusson, Kleiner and Gordon however, are safe.

It is highly unlikely that Alyx will die. No-one ever suggested or thought about anyone significant dying in Episode Two, and yet they did it. And now, just because Valve show you they can, and they have done, everyone thinks that someone is going to have to die in Episode Three. It's highly unlikely, and it would just diminish the effect that Episode Two has. It's highly unlikely that Barney will, as he's one of the only sources of satirical comedy you have. That and, what's the point in building up this relationship with Alyx when she's just going to die? It just seems incredibly stupid. You aren't that close to Kleiner, Eli or Magnusson. But Valve have already made the message, you know it's real (as in, not unreal, not like "it's not a game"), and there's no call for any more.

Dog will probably bite it, heroically of course. Mossman probably, also. Alyx won't, Valve knows there are too many lonely fanboys out there who might get suicidal. I'd say Barney is safe on the grounds he wasn't in ep2.

Well think about why they died. Eli died most likly because the Advisors freaked out and went to "remove" him themself. What other motives, (Beside reble-ness) would cause a character death.

Offing another major character would appear a bit cheap, imo, like Valve was trying to cash in on the success of the Ep. 2 scene. Don't think it's likely to happen.
