Ive made a hostage map and all was going well untill it started crashing in hammer whenever i looked at the hostage entity in the 3d views which it wasnt doing also the hostages dont work in the compiled map they just stand there and will say ok lets go then ok ill stay here but they dont move. Also i made and empty map and put a hostage into it and hammer just crashed so it is not the map that is the problem. can anyone help?

yeah you need to make a nav file for hosties or someting so they follow you, Ive never done it so I dont know sorry, don't know about the hammer prob either.

Nav files are easy.

Load up you game and bring up the console. type
"nav_edit 1".
Then type "nav_generate". A nav file will now be generated. In my opinion this have file is however quite bad but might be enough for you. What i isually do here is type in "notarget" and then load in a few bots so that I can see how they behave, because bots and hossies youse the same nav file.

Then you can use all the other nav_ commands to fix this up, such as nav_add_area and nav_remove area etc etc,

The areas are the squares you see on the ground when nav_edit is set to 1 and these represent "walkable space". The bots will move through these. For a bot to move to another area these two MUST BE LINKED. Remember that all links are one-way so if you want the bot to be able to turn around and go back then you also have to link it back. Same goes for hossies.

Also special "orders" can be set to areas, such as crouch here or jump here. Snipe and camp points however I don't think you place youselef as those are places if you type in "nav_analyze" in the console. Hossies ignore these completeley.
