i have a cap on my dl limit, preloading hl2 is gonna streach this cap and cost me over limit penities.

About 3.5 Gigs. :O (2 gigs compressed)

Use "search" next time.

ALpha(N0va) bare in mind that it won't be a requirement for you to pre-load HL2. It's not something you have to do.

If you plan to buy it in the stores then the CD will install everything for you. If you do really want to download it from Steam then you'll just have to suffer the penalties of your ISP being so sucky.

isp gives good conection but shittie caps, see the way i see it if i dl hl2, not only do i secure it on the day of release but i also dont have to go to the store with my coustom build axe/hammer and beat off the nerb with rabies

sorry, couldn't help chuckling at penities.

pre-load is a nice idea but i personally think it wont work so well

Ahah! i found you Chris_D! you evil evil man!
consider your throat slit *sluchichh, gasp noises and throat noises*

i consider my debt unto you repaid, may you now live it the worlds full glory

"pre-load is a nice idea but i personally think it wont work so well"

Maybe Valve, knowing this, will start the preload at month's end so all the bandwidth doesn't show up on the same billing cycle? ;-)

ISP's usually run on a fiscal calendar, which means that the month begins on the day you subscribed and not the actual first day of the month (unless you registered with your ISP on that day of course).

what i would do is try and calculate which one would save you money, gas, time and going to the store, or spending however many hours downloading it from steam. Personally, I'd like to have it in CD form but that's me.

you can also pause the the preload. it puts it in a cache so you won't loose anything when its stopped.

Yeah, but your opinions are wrong, if you don't like it great, no one cares to hear about it.

That is kind of presumptuous to think that the entire community does not want to hear/care about “it”. I don’t recall anyone giving you the authority to speak for everyone as a whole. Hmm… maybe the reason I do not recall it is because it was never given to you. Yeah that must be it. It was an opinion and you are not the arbiter of the forum.

Disturbed's right in this case, the guys a dumbass. he said it wouldnt work (the HL2 preload) but when ask for a legitamate answer he gave an opinion instead of a answer. a retard, snobby, stupid, irrelevant one at that ("i dont like it" wow your a genius for arguements). i for would have slapped him if he said that to be inperson which accomidates Disturbed's comment, i dont want to hear stupid answers to legitmate questions.

I sure hope they have that Bittorrent code in Steam...because they're going to get hammered

Wait, are you saying you are charged extra for using more bandwidth than you should?

Why can't you/they put a cap on it!? Wouldn't that stop all the problems?

I think that downloading the game, won't work so well too!
What happens if at 99% of the download you get a really f****** virus and need to format the hdd, or your computer gets hit by lightning and burns everything, and what if some big nasty aliens have sex with your hdd!
I think it's better to have the game in physical form (CD), it's much safer, faster and easyer to use!!

Chances are you'll break the CD and not crash your HDD.

And even if it crashed, you have the rights to download the game again. With the broken CD, you gotta buy it again.

HL2 would still be attached to your Steam account, even if you broke the cd. You'd still be able to download the game through Steam.

I'd get a hardcopy of the game if my ISP were that stingy.

True, true!

But I always make a backup CD, and play with it! The original CD is locked away, that even those horny alienm can't get to it!! In my entire 10 year life of plaing games i've broken, maybe 3 CD (unimportant stuff)! Many floppies back in the Amiga days, yes, but very fef CD!!! Then God must realy hate my if I break the HALF-LIFE 2 cd! Ok enough of the bullshit, I'm for CD and thats what I'm going to buy!

Actually, no. If that was true, costaware would be a useless program, it resets it's counters at the start of each month.
