As for gay marriage, I want it banned. Abortion, I want it banned.

Abortion, theres consequences to actions. Early abortions, i dont know. Late term abortions, no different than murder in my opinion. Middle of the road abortions, still dont know. Dont have sex, if you cant pay the consequences. Rape or incest is another subject.

These 2 things are something I view as a clear right and wrong issues. You can argue the gay thing, but i feel strong about abortion. Felt this way long before I became affilated with any religion.

Sterns, you cannot tell others how to see the world, nor can they tell you how to see it; we are conditioned in our views. it would take a life altering event to change our views otherwise, not petty words on a forum. Sure there have been religious acts of cruelty in the past. My point is, people have been doing this before religion, during and after. Even for the size of cheese or whatever. Religion in general has nothing to do with it.

Clearly your history needs to be brushed up: Christianity was officially formed by the Romans ( hence Roman Katholic ). Before that you had random tribes of people who called themselves Christians.
Many gospels and scripts were bound together by the romans, and issued as the official katholic bible.

For once I agree with stern. In Canada they may not force it on people per se but in the states and namely the Boy Scouts its forced christianity. Here is the scout law.

A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, curteous, kind, obedient,cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverant.

That last part means no atheists or agnostics. Like gays, you will be booted out of scouts for mentioning it. Also getting your eagle badge you need a letter of recomendation from someone about your religious life. Meaning going to church and your devotion to your religion. For atheists to get past that point is pretty hard. In fact after you get your badge an atheist can lose it as well. So they are serious when they enforce their religion. At church you have to go to sunday services if that camp has them(Larger events usually do).

I could go on and on but the point is if your in scouts that is one way religion is being forced on you. Next up is society in general. It is pretty much accepted that everyone goes to church. When my friends find out I am an atheist they laugh at me because they can't believe it. Society is accepting large scale religion more and more and bringing it to the mainstream. Heck on TV they have sermons in the morning broadcast on TV. Some of the richest and largest buildings in town are churches. I can give more example if you need me too, but look around you and there is so much tied to religion it is getting crazy these days.

Throughout Europe you can find the best examples and proof of Christianity and how it actually works. Although most Europeans arent religious, the majority is still christian in its roots.
In every country gay mariage is accepted without demonstrations, there isnt even debates.
Abortion is normal, gay marriage etc. Its because Christians in Europe in general arent very religious or fanatical.

The boyscout thing, i think the entire boyscouts would get banned within 1 day here in Holland if such things were to take place there.

Actually i'm sure you'll find that many religious people, myself included don't view religion as a simple answer. In fact its one of the most complicated things in our lives. We don't just think 'god did it' as a simple answer to complicated things. Science goes hand in hand with religion in the belief that god created the complicated mechanics that make the universe work. And 'how' they work, Is explained by science.

My girlfriend is kinda religeous. She's been brought up like that by her parents. She told me about some of the stuff and some of it seems scary but some of it was nice and it can make people into better people.

Myself? I'm not sure. But I keep an open mind. If someone says they believe in God. Then that's up to them. If someone doesn't, then they dont. I'll believe it when I see it, but i have taken on-board some of the teachings and I feel it made me who I am today. I guess we'll find out when we die, I'd like there to be an afterlife to be honest. The thought of it all just ending suddenly saddens me somewhat.

Well it depends if the kid is joking or is actually serious about that. They will assume the kid is joking most likely but if it becomes an issue they will fix it. It also depends on the adults that lead the troop. Gays are banned from scouts but there are gay troops that promote that lifestyle. Up to them I guess...I don't care what other troops do so much but I have a problem with discriminating against people. Atheists or gays, if its not causing a problem why create one and kick them out?

Oh well, at least I never got caught up into all of that and am out of scouts and got my eagle scout. I am happy and will leave it at that.
