0, because my theory is you can *register* it, and the activation is actually steam downloading the final files to you. So even if you get it early, you can register it, much like those who buy over steam already have it registered to their account. When Gabe hits the button, steam will be nice and let us all, retail and steam purchased, have the last few files.

If shacknews is in fact correct about all this, I'd say around 100. It wouldn't be too many, because you'd get average Joe Bloggs buying the game with no knowledge of the activation thing, then getting super pissed off (as you would) when he couldn't play for the next few days.

The idea that it will be unlocked if it's released early is a rumor.

Everyone who buys it, regardless if by steam or retail, will have to wait until 11/16 for steam to activate it.
