Are hunters Combine in their natural form? Or are like the advisors the ACTUAL ones. Are hunters just robots? Cause they bear a strikeling(err..) resemblance to strider's. just like in war o da worlds. I really want to see the true true face of the combine.. Those big fat advisors cant build crap!!! ONLY BUG YOUR MIND WITH ORGIES!!!(..?) Its like Jabba the Hutt being an engineer.. any ideas? They had to have been a worker class at some point to build all of the technology. Unless they took over a world and made them do what they want. yeah.

no and no. Hunters are assumed to be synth'd houndeye's or bullsquids. The bullsquids theory is only mine though and I only base it on some eyes that I think I see on the sides of it's dual cannon/eye thingies....i would love for Valve to realease a collection of works depicting the un-synth'd creatures the Combine converted into Gunships, Striders, Hunters, Crab-synths, etc.

The combine have invaded thousands, maybe even millions of planets and sytems, you don't think they would've found something a bit more suitable for synthetication than a houndeye? C'mon, two bullets and they go down, not to mention they're total cowards.

there are many similarities between the hunters and houndeyes you cant shrug off though.

But probably the reason they are not synth'd houndeyes is because they do not use their sonic attack, which was the houndeyes main weapon. Instead they have the pulse gun mounted into their head.

So they probably are not houndeyes.

The unsynth'd strider would be pointless, it would just be a big daddy-long-legs. maybe it could have the skewer attack, but thats it. No singularity cannon. Wheres the fun in that?

Hmm houndeye or hunter plushy. Houndeye of course!

Maybe they will show us a bit about Hunters if we can find a Combine building where they make them or something in Ep2. Sorta like we saw in HL2 going through the Citadel but more upclose.

Isn't that all the point with synth-ing? You take the needed properties and add combine tech. They chose the houndeeyes because of thier quickness and relentlessness and because of their teamwork ( we know hunters operate in threes , as the houndeyes hunted in groups in HL1 , retreating and bringing more backup).

So they all those stuff , gave them longer and flexible legs and mounted on them guns. Maybe the houndeyes weren't only the "source material" the combine used making the Hunters , but it's pretty reasonable that houndeyes are part of this.

On my CD version of Half-Life the hound eye's sonic attack never did any damage, so they were pretty harmless. I hope the Hunters are like that on my first version of Ep 2, it upsets me that I actually have to kill the little buggers on my steam version of Half-Life now :(

what bothers me a little is why valve are not using the synth colour scheme for the hunters - odd choice to make when every other synth shares that same beige colouring

Perhaps Hunters come in different colors to match the environment where they are deployed?

this may sound silly but could it perhaps be a Panther eye? lol

lets just face it, This is a bio-organic machine wich is Faster and deadlier than Striders *cough* poor gordon

ye, ok if you say so
Strider busters. If Im remembering this right, the 5th gameplay video (where the strider blows up the house) shows around 4 strider busters in that building alone. I remember because my computer kept lagging through the trailer, and it showed the strider busters for a while.

Heck, if thats a normal amount, the pistol may end up as the strider-killer.

That doesn't make Striders weaker, only easier to defeat

Strider buster=a weapon that makes a Strider weaker,so it can be easier to defeat. So as you can see the both of them.

Yeah, the Strider Buster really changes how I look at Striders. Does the crossbow work with the buster? If it does.....:E

And the only thing Valve dissappoints me is that. They're making Half Life sooo easy! I understand they don't want to lose average players but please make that "harder than hard" thing in Ep2!

Did you see the amount of striders Cuthbert? That house the strider ownd had a shelf full of busters, and there was only one in that shack against, what, 6 Striders? Not to mention Hunters shoot 'em down.

Yeah, how many times did the player get near death in the demos and somehow not go below ~15hp with direct strider hits (hax).

Obviously they must have turned on God mode at that point to demonstrate the use of the strider buster.

Strider buster only MAKES THEM EASIER TO DEFEAT!
Their attack remains as strong, they would probably pick a Hunter to pieces

I tried to get hit by a strider's phallic cannon in Ep1 yesterday. Had 100hp+15 armor, after the hit I had like 11hp...hopefully they do more damage in Ep2.

I know there are a lot of striders but judging from HL2 and Ep1, I know that Valve just don't make games hard. I mean Far Cry Realistic Mode hard. And I want that. If you play Far Cry in normal mode that's a game, if you play it in Realistic mode that's another game! You have to hide, use stealth, and be careful about ammo waste etc. It adds replayablity to a game.

Also, anyone played Brothers in Arms, realistic mode?

far cry realistic mode... where enemy body armor stops everything short of headshots, but your armor evaporates in .2 seconds

I'm just going to do what i always do when i play half life. A. install something like smod, or B. tweak the cfg files so that all weapon, health, and damage values are balanced and challenging. (I never liked the fact that combine troops are covered head to toe in armor but only have a fraction of the health you have, and their weapons only ever did 3 damage per shot)

which was challenging.

I really don't want balanced gameplay when I play Half Life 2 or EpOne zillionth time. I want to bark and howl and curse those damn gunships and striders and I want to spit on the dead bodies of combine elites and I want to cry when I finally find a health pack. I want to think rebels are important and I want to be glad they're helping me.

I think we was trying to point out that it was ironicaly unrealistic.

And no, hunters are not Combine, nor are they Houndeyes. They are a new type of synth that will kill you if you stop to think about its origins, that's all you need to know.

.

I know. And I tried to explain that at some point, like when you beat a game 5 times, you don't care about realism or balanced gameplay, you want more challenges, tougher enemies, timed runs, etc.
