Has anyone played the game Hydro Thunder for N64, Dreamcast, and Playstation? It's a boat racing game, arcade style. It's really fun and I thought if enough people liked the idea I would start a mod. Everybody seems to make regular racing games. I don't think this has been attempted before, and it seems like a good idea to me.
In the original Hydro Thunder there are 13 boats total (Four of which you have to secretly unlock, three "easy," three "medium," three "hard,"). There are 13 maps. In the game they have boosts, ramps, shortcuts, etc. If i made the mod i personally would like to make SP and MP, but that's a different discussion. I think this is a great idea because its a BOAT racing game, online, and with the possibilty to make user-created levels!

No.. but I've always wanted to by the original arcade version. *sigh*. If only had thousands of dollars.

i think it would be fun, but i want guns on my boat

intercoast '76 FTW!!!

I've been concepting a racing game for a while now which is on the backburner until I have time but the main problem I see is with hitbox detection (erk -I've said too much!).

With a waterbound racer lower speeds wouldn't look out of place, so it's a more feasible idea, just whatever you do don't copy Hydro Thunder. They don't own the concept of racers on water, and it hasn't been done much on the PC so you really have a big enough scope to come up with something original. I think you'll want to be spending a lot of time on the User Interface seeing as it's not quite as simple as racing on land. You want to be able to achieve the right feel.

As far as popularity, I don't think I'd follow something like this religiously until I'd seen a reasonable Beta release and good feedback on this. It doesn't really float my boat.
