I bought HL2 and now I feel remorse

I've spent and unhealthy portion of my life playing videogames ever since I was 7 years old. Through 15 years of avid gaming, I can say that I've never played a game that had me giggling like a school-girl as much as hl2 did. It was easily the most fun and exhilerating time I've had playing a videogame. It's not perfect, and the game has some flaws if you want to look for them, but overall it was by far the most fun and immersive experience that I've experienced in a game.

In due... well, I'm not at liberty to say.

This is where I get off, Mr. Freeman.

Well, it took me 3 sittings to complete the game. I guess I am not a hardcore gamer like yourself ;)

Yeah I guess that's how I felt too, but in my case, the bad ending (among other things) ruined the whole experience. You give me a better ending and perhaps I wouldn't be so negative about this game.

I'm not an extreme gamer. doom3 and..... Roller coaster tycoon 1 are the most recent game's I've bought. hell... possibly the only ones bought since 2002 for PC.

and yes. 14 hours is extreme. Extreme bad. I reccomend it to no one. I don't see how I did it. I won't do it again until the next singleplayer HL installment. My whole body hurt from sitting in my dumb taskchair the day after playing it. I regret sitting so long, but I don't regret playing it that long :D

Remorse: a strong feeling of guilt and regret

Does anyone else feel like this?

No, I don't feel like this, but posts like this were predicted a year before the game was released.

Right now I am at I believe "Anti Citizen 17." My only compalaint is the length, it seems short compared to HL1. But maybe thats just because I have become a better gamer. I also wish some of the levels were longer, such as Ravenholm, that brilliant piece of art should have been twice the length :D The "Docks" level from the original E3 demo seems like it would have been cool.

I was not trying to annoy or depress anyone! I just can't reconcile the fact that many people say this game was great when in fact it wasn't. I don't care if you can pick a can of paint and throw it against a wall, or kill your enemies with it; if the game doesn't have a good story it won't cut it for me.

Now I know I might be comparing apples to oranges here, but if we are going to judge the game by its graphics alone, aren't the GTA graphics much better than HL's ? GTA looks more impressive to me.

Are you trying to say HL1 story was better? How? There was not much to the story, atleast it is explained to the same extent as HL2.

Which is:

A research facility invaded by aliens, that is the biggest cliche of them all. Half-Life of course executed it brilliantly. That is why I beleive HL biggest strength is the atmosphere. Otherwise the story is just as mysterious.

Now to HL2. How can you say there is no good story? It is not handed on a silver plate, I will grant you that. But the story is fantastic, it is really quiet deep and makes you think. Everything in the game has a meaning, even the damn graffity. The sence of mystery is amazing. Not to mention the really well executed "Big Brother" style society atmosphere.

My only coplain: MORE!!!

Finally - someone who also recognizes that the original's story was nothing more than a brilliantly executed take on old, standard sci-fi cliches! Not that there's anything wrong with that - but to consider the original's story as something revolutionary as something special isn't quite correct. In fact, the story is the weakest part of the original Half Life.

On the other hand, Half Life 2's story provides a depth and sophistication that one only realizes upon further reflection.

I feel a little remorse too.....

See my "I'm getting suspicious emails from Steam" thread

Seems that I, the only one of my friends to have Legally brought HL2, am having more problems than they are having

seems like Valve have created a system so secure with so many things needing to be in place in order to play it, that it's actually easier and less hassle using illegal cracks to bypass needing a steam account and a net connection, than it is to do it the legal way

hehehe it' ironic, the steam copy protection actally encorages you to use an illegal version

The problem for many people is that HL2's story is told in a fairly unusual way. It isn't communicated through lengthy cutscenes, but by the atmosphere of City 17, the little clues here and there, the chance comments of the rebel fighters.

I'm still mystified by the ending, but it was certainly clever, and it does make you think.
