How come in half life 2, among other games, they always say stuff like, "He almost got on the train to Nova Prospekt!" or "Thats the passage to Ravenholm.. we dont go there anymore.." And in the middle/end, THEY END UP GOING THERE? Its as if they WANT him to go where they DONT want him to go. Its just wrong man. They FORCE me/gordon NOT to take their advice... its just weird...

Because you touch yourself at night. It's called: Down syndrome.

Because that way it feels more like a story and less like random levels/environments.

I agree, it adds another layer to the story. You know what others have said about those places. So when it gets to the point where you actually have to go there you're thinking "Oh great, what the hell have I gotten into now." Suspense, that's what it's all about.

Because a place wont seem as scary if you arent told or hinted as to what is so wrong about that place...

They don't want you to go there, it's just you are hapless. Blame why the debris in Eli Lab fell before you and blame why Eli is locked with Nova Prospekt, rather than your home.

Foreshadowing is an excellent ingredient in great story telling.

So, wait.

When Alex said "We don't go there anymore.."

You just thought "Oh man, good! good! I'm glad a character will mention an area that I don't go to! Phew!"

Whatever you do, don't get this thread closed!

Closed.

Well, it might have worked :p
Seriously, if they say "we don't go there", your gonna go there.

You know what acepilotf14? I agree. The nerve of those writers to try and tell a story! And you know what? They also added stupid things like "character development", "plot arcs", and "resolution". Its total bullshit. Seriously Valve should, like, FIRE those guys.

Exactly.

Don't like, don't play it, don't bitch about it.

Haha, when I had to go to Ravenholm for the first time I was like... D: !!!

And the idea of going into Nova Prospect scared me. I'd much rather have relaxed at that little camp for a while, you know, chat with the vortigaunts, play with the antlions...

But no.

I actually was hoping to be able to take a break and meander around...not those Vortigaunts going "We should not talk of such things in the presence of a human"

Racist bastards!

Considering your freed them from the Nihilanth and that you will free them from the Combine they could be a little more respectful.

So the vortigaunt's reactions should be pretty mixed, then. Makes sense.

The foreshadowing only made Ravenholm scarier
Alyx: "Trust me there's a good reason that tunnel is locked up"
Eli: "Do not go through Raven-"
Alyx: "Take the old tunnel through Ravenholm"
Gordon: "D:"

Yeah that kinda pissed me off that Alyx for some reason couldn't make out Eli saying that. Sounded pretty clear to me :X

I bet she could, but there was no other way.

Althought why Dog couldn't clear the rubble I couldn't see. Structural integrity? *shrugs*
