I have another question

Not really, but he has "employed" you and basically controls what you do. It's believed that he orchestrated the resonance cascade and the subsequent mobilisation of the HECU and black ops to Black Mesa.

but i mean since like at the end of hl2 he stopped time and stuff so is he a ghost?

No one knows. It's probably the most important question in the Half-Life story. The only thing you know is that he is currently your employer and that he observed you in Black Mesa (the research center where HL1 took place).

We don't even know for sure he stopped time in HL2, that might be a result of the explosion. Although the G-Man certainly does have some powers. He appears imprevious to any attacks, isn't bothered at all by soldiers or aliens running near him, can possibly disappear at will, maybe stop time, and certainly put you into stasis or out of it.

Some of the theories are:

* The G-Man is a member of some anti-Combine alliance. His ultimate goal is to destroy/cripple the Combine, and he uses Gordon Freeman to fight them on Earth.

* The G-Man is some intergalactic "talent scout", who finds people with great abilities and takes them into his employ.

* The G-Man is somehow linked to the Vortigaunts, possibly being their controlling force or a manifestation of their hive mind.

* A really interesting once - the G-Man is an enemy of Earth and is going to achieve its destruction. First, he causes the dimensional rifts that let the Combine find Earth (HL1). The Combine invade, and take Earth over. Then, the G-Man uses Freeman to deal Combine a big blow on Earth (HL2). The G-Man's goal is to make the Combine so angry that they will just wipe all of Earth out instead of enslaving them like HL2.

* Pre-HL2 many believed that the G-Man is actually a human with access to some prototype teleportation technology or somesuch.

There are also some off-the-wall theories, like the G-Man being a time traveler, representing some spiritual force, like being an angel or whatever, but those are not very popular.

The real deal is that we just do not know for sure. This is the theory I have taken a liking to:

" Why did G-Man give Gordon this assignment? Good question. The way things are going, I believe that G-Man is an agent of an interstellar rebel alliance (assuming a human form), seeking to try to break down the ruthless Combine empire, an empire which I believe existed far before the events of HL1. This rebel force has incredible technology to be able to control teleportation in the way G-Man does. Perhaps he realizes that Gordon Freeman is the only one who can defeat the Combine empire, and keeps him on call for this sort of thing. You have to remember, Gordon also freed a different race: the Xenians. So this is the second big blow Gordon's struck against the Combine. The funny thing is, he doesn't even realize it. I do not believe that G-Man is Gordon Freeman from the future."

The quoted text above was taken from http://members.shaw.ca/halflifestory/timeline.htm visit the URL to learn more. I have read the entire site many times and find it very helpful in sorting things out.

G-Man brings an interesting tension to the game, as he may work for the most developed species in the galaxy, or maybe not..... Thats what makes him so interesting. Does he work for aliens or humans? Is he an alien or human? What does he want employing Gordon? Is he working against or with the Combine?

I could make up several more questions about this man. I really think he adds to the tension and interest of the HL storyline. The unknown is always fascinating!
Hope to know more about G-Man in the upcoming game

Well said Opressor. It is not really important what his function is at the moment. He is there. We (the players) want to know why. Therefore, we keep playing and buying Half-Life installments. I know that for me he is one of the reasons I love the game. As Opressor said, "The unknown is always fascinating!" Character development by Valve has been amazing in the Half-Life saga. Why do we keep playing? Why do we care about who the G-Man is at all? Because, when we play the game, we "feel" for the characters. The team at Valve has done such a nice job of making us feel as if we are Gordon Freeman. This, in turn, makes us care about what happens to him and everyone around him.

this is just my opinion but i think he is an alien plotting the downfall and desruction of earth. i think he is on earth spying and making a plan. it might sound wierd but that is what i think he is

He is the second coming of Jesus.

Now stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

I think he owns Gordon and hires him out to to highest bidder.

Yes, indeed that site is one of the best to read.
A large chunk of it has been disproved now. There was no Combine invasion of Xen, Combine enslavement of the Nihlianth etc. The Vortiguants fled to Xen, Nihlianth blocked access to Xen and inadvertadly to Earth. There are other details that I never really trusted either. Speculation isn't a bad thing, but now that site is basically outdated and incorrect speculation.
