that the people at Valve Software are knobs.

They only have themselves to blame for not keeping their content secure.

oh and way to hype up yet another title which you can't even deliver! *cough* TF2 *cough*

please get your act together!

the hackers could have targeted any company to steal the stuff they wanted from, valve was just unlucky. its not their fault for having ****ing internet connections. come on

ok i hate to say this, coz i know ill be flames and told i wrong, but in all fairness no one on this board knows anything about valves security, from the vague information we've been given. Using outlook isnt negligent, it's negligent on MS' part for not updating it a long time ago. Other than that, how can you say it was unsecure? How do you know what kinda security they were using?

oh and for the record, im still 100% behind valve, and i dont disagree with ANY decisions they've made in the course of the production of this title.

LOL Solid logic never fails.

Unfortunately, no computer is truly secure from the most bent of wills and minds.

But consider your comments already stated in previous posts.

truly secure computers (from hackers) do exist the are commenly known as stand alone computers. Yes, i know it's an ancient word but it does exist look it up in the dictonary.

also i know of many companies that have 2 networks one with internet and one with an internal only network. I wouldn't want to think about what would happen if my bank handled it's internal transactions on a network that is connected to the internet (hence they created swiftnet)

In fact, Valve must be so stupid don't buy their game. When Hl2 comes out don't buy the game!

If you're dumb enough to make negative comments all the time then make up on it and don't buy the game!

i didn't intend to, i'm intending on buying the engine. i couldn't care less about the game just want to make a cool game myself

I think the original poster is any idiot as he could have been a little more mature, however, this leak was almost all of Vavle's fault. There is no reason a company should keep source files on a machine connected to the internet, especially when the IP of the machine is known by almost everyone (due to emails from Gabe). People try to blame Microsoft for this, these people know nothing about computer security. It wouldn't matter if Gabe was using a mac, unix, or anyother OS, if he didn't take proper precautions to protect his data it would still have gotten hacked.

yeah for real! what's so hard about setting up a closed circuit LAN? even an eight year old could do it.

anyways I'm blaming valve's hype machine aswell. chances are this wouldn't have happened if they just kept HL2 hush hush until release. all of this pre-release comotion must have somewhat inspired the hackers to do what they did.

ho hum.. maybe next they'll finally leak TF2.

well if it was an internal leak i don't think the hype machine would have had any influence.

Reread my post, I was calling the original poster (arrowhead) an idiot, not Gabe. Gabe simply made a mistake that will cost him a lot, he is by a large margin not stupid and will probably learn a lot from this little experiance.
