A suprisingly well-made and intelligent movie. I think it has enough depth and references to Asimov's works that it can bear his name. And it doesn't hurt that it also works extremely well as an action movie. Some of the scenes are simply outstanding.

One gripe that critics had with the movie was usually Smith's acting. I thought it was exactly as it should have been. He has his usual repertoire of sarcastic remarks, but they are usually good, and don't seem out of place. His character also has a decent amount of depth and complexity, as is demonstrated in many scenes (sometimes in a very subtle manner). His character development also works well, and doesn't seem forced. Bridget Moynahan (Dr. Calvin) is also good. And thank God/the writers that there is no romance between the lead characters. I don't think there was even a hint of one. Suprises and upredictable revelations are nice, too. The movie assumes that the audience has at least some level of intelligence, though looking at the reviews it seems that they were being a bit too optimistic...

The problem is, people expected it to be a brainless action-comedy because it's got Will Smith in it. It is, if you think it is. It's like going to see a drama and complaining that it wasn't funny and there wasn't any action in it. And to think that these people consider themselves to be movie critics, or something. There is depth to the movie, if you know where to look.

They showed will smiths ass to many times for my liking :x

I've noticed in many reviews that everyone got their dick in a knot over Will Smith's shower scene, as if that's the first time in the history of cinema that we see someone take a shower... big ****ing deal, I shower every day.

I was so happy that some1 got around to make an Asimov film, this was not 1 BMHO.

Ok action, thats about it.

I, Robot's closest resemblence to Asimov's book is the title.

i, Robot is not based on anything specific by Asimov. And really, if you can't see any other connection, you simply didn't watch it.

Laws of Robotics. That's about it.

Really, I, Robot was no good. (I won't even bother to put in IMO, because, WTH, everything I say is IMO. IMO is the most useless expression ever.)

Dr. Susan Calvin and the Zeroth law of Robotics (which wasn't mentioned but was present) are references. The USR is a reference. Positronic brains. Lots of themes (morality, consciousness as related to robotics etc.) used in Asimov's books. Wikipedia lists many more that I didn't spot because I don't remember all the stories.

Really, I, Robot was no good.

Well... why?

Personal taste I guess.

As for me I thought it was a good movie, I was surprised by Smith, his acting was sober for once. :)

No spoilers my ass! That's the only reason I wanted to watch that movie! ;(

But seriously, it looked somewhat good, if not for Will Smith. I'm going to go so it soon

references and references, dunno bout that, more like names dropping to me.

I liked it, it was good. The best scene was:

When will smith fake sneezed and said "i'm sorry, i'm allergic to bullshit"

i agree. the cover of the book shouldn't have been will smith but i'm sure his face sold books (although the image is totally irrelavent since the main character is a woman and she never "saw it coming"). i liked the book and i liked the movie.
