A suprisingly well-made and intelligent movie. I think it has enough depth and references to Asimov's works that it can bear his name. And it doesn't hurt that it also works extremely well as an action movie. Some of the scenes are simply outstanding.
One gripe that critics had with the movie was usually Smith's acting. I thought it was exactly as it should have been. He has his usual repertoire of sarcastic remarks, but they are usually good, and don't seem out of place. His character also has a decent amount of depth and complexity, as is demonstrated in many scenes (sometimes in a very subtle manner). His character development also works well, and doesn't seem forced. Bridget Moynahan (Dr. Calvin) is also good. And thank God/the writers that there is no romance between the lead characters. I don't think there was even a hint of one. Suprises and upredictable revelations are nice, too. The movie assumes that the audience has at least some level of intelligence, though looking at the reviews it seems that they were being a bit too optimistic...
The problem is, people expected it to be a brainless action-comedy because it's got Will Smith in it. It is, if you think it is. It's like going to see a drama and complaining that it wasn't funny and there wasn't any action in it. And to think that these people consider themselves to be movie critics, or something. There is depth to the movie, if you know where to look.
