i want to use my old pc as a server

I have an AMD Athlon 700 mhz system with 256 MB of ram. I want to get it acting as a dedicated server for HL multiplayer. Do I need special video or sound cards installed? Also, will I need to use Linux on it for the best performance? Is this machine even capable of doing what I want it to?

It's worth giving it a try. Your internet connection is more likely to hold you back.

You don't need linux. Windows runs dedicated servers just fine.
