If there was something you could improve...

-Unique skins of Sheck and Griggs.

I don't really think that would be necessary, as the use of already existing skins shows that all those that die in defence of you and humanity have their own personalities.

On the contary, I loved that scene. Particulary when all 3 tunnels and the breach lit up with three lights.

Yeh same, when that first tunnel first lit up and Sheck and Griggs were crapping themselves really got me pumped as i awaited the assualt, but when they ALL the tunnels fully lit up, I haven't been that pumped up in an FPS for a long time.

One of Valve best action scenes without a doubt.

But then again, Father Grigori and Odessa Cubbage got their own skins while not serving major roles in the HL2 saga. Therefore one would think Sheck and Griggs would have deserved the same treatment too. My other points of concern are:

-The Guardian feels more like a cheap rehash of the Antlion Guard than a truely unique enemy. At least it could have spit acid like the Workers do.

-I'm still disappointed that there's not enough wildlife around besides Antlions and Headcrabs.

-The final battle needed to be spiced up. Fighting nothing but Striders and Hunters got formulatic after a while.

It was a tad too long, but the atmosphere when all tunnels had 3 lights is damned hard to beat. One of the best I've seen in an FPS. It was easily the best part of the first half of the game (aside from the G-Man scene).

Its shove is actually poisonous, for some reason.

I got really pumped up, when i sprinted through the caves, hearing the thumps getting louder, and when i reached a tunnel, i suddenly got butted and that really made me jump plenty of times.

That feeling, that you are being chased by something big enough to block the entire tunnel really makes me freak out.

rofl geuss we are both scary noobs, I ran so hard for that thing

i hate the ant lions
i hate the car physics
i hate having to protect people
i hate the "zomg they're coming from tunnel 1, now from tunnel 2, now from tunnel 1 & 2 gameplay

Yeah and I don't understand why the workers where tougher than the antlion soldiers...

And whats up with the achivements?
They make Ep.2 look like Ratchet & Clank.

Well they had to make them for the 360 version so why not include them on the pc too. Might as well.

please valve, please use better soundtracks. More symphonic epic soundtracks, rather than bloddy techno shit..

also, the ending could have been so much more epic (the closure of the super portal that is..) There could have been citizens outside cheering away..or at least in a distance or via the speakers..

We heard enough rebels cheering when the Strider battle was over.

And I like the music in HL. It's usually pretty fitting for the situations.

The music in HL is brilliant. Sure, its not something you causly listen to ,but it always fits the scene. That battle with the antlions wouldn't have been anywhere near as good without the music.

the techno music introducing the ep1 video in ep2 would not be as good as a symphonic epic one..

Personally I would like friendly NPCs to have a greater sense of self-preservation.

Case in point: You lead the helicopter to the rail-yard full of friendly rebels. One of them makes some friendly banter with Alyx, asks you to help fight off the helicopter, then goes and stands out in the open while it cuts him down on the first volley.

My favourite soundtracks from the episodes are both of the soundtracks, that introduced the Episodes and the last Epic soundtrack, which ends Ep.2.

I think it's also played in one of the Ep.2 trailers.

Actually it's exactly the type of music I casually listen to. But I love almost anything electronic so I'm biased.

I listen to the techno/guitar driven tracks casually. My favorite HL song of all time has to be Apprehension and Evasion.

Another point that needed some improvement- I think the script in the first half of Episode Two was kinda weak and uninspiring. Even Alyx had some kinda lame lines ("You messed with its eggs? No wonder it's mad!").

Generic headcrab placement. It was kind of scary the first time a headcrab lunged at me from behind a box, or a tucked up corner of a room, but now it's just getting annoying and starting to ruin the immersion for me.

And when you come into a Combine controlled area, or a Resitance controlled camp, why are there still poision headcrabs tucked away in places? Maybe I just hate those bastards too much but seriously, SWEEP THE AREAS FIRST please.

As for improvement on existing features, well how about if the damn Magnuson Device also detonated when rebels shot at Striders. It was kind of silly that it only detonated if I shot at it....

Seconded

The defenders felt so feeble when it became apparent they couldn't shoot a damn bomb on the side the strider.

But I would of loved a section where you see a Gargantua attacking striders; Shattering a leg of one, melting the second's face, and then finally succumbing to a cannon in it's back :x

One thing that bothers me is when they place Poison Headcrabs by themselves. Since they technically can't kill you without assistance from a different enemy, they aren't worrisome or challenging at all.

Thing was, I could pretty much walk into any environmemt in the game and say ''I bet there's going to be at least one poison headcrab hiding somewhere around here and/or any other type of headcrab'' and low and behold, 9 out of 10 times there was. The White Forest Inn one in the basement was the worst. It was just so blindingly obvious there would be something lurking there. It's not a scare thing anymore, it's just as if the devs got power mad with the spawning triggers, because there would ALWAYS be something hiding in a corner for you.

Poison headcrabs do extra normal bite damage on Hard, which means that two of them can kill you.

Found that out in HL2 ;(

Ah well, who knows, a crate may fall on your head and do 5 damage while you just got bitten :cheese:

It's not supposed to be scary. Headcrabs go for those areas...

Same!

I know that, it's just getting a bit predictable, is all. And it ruins the immersion finding them in the most silly places like a few metres from a Resistance camp, or in a Combine controller area. I mean, it's not like they're hard to find - the poison headcrabs squeak, hiss and rattle near enough every few seconds.

I love areas where you THINK there will be headcrabs, but there aren't any. And you keep on your toes the whole trip through. Then, When you think there won't be one on the next trip, BOOM theres one in your FACE. Oh, and there was that gay headcrab during the bridge section in HL2 that was sitting next to two combine, and yet wasn't shot at all..
wtf.

Sounds like you really enjoyed the game.

- Enough with the antlions already. Are they really the only Xen species besides headcrabs and barnacles (and the one ichthyosaur) to still exist on Earth? It sure seems like it... not even the inclusion of the bullsquid-like Worker could freshen up their section of the game. Zombie sections were still fun since there's so many ways to kill zombies and there's more variety to them.

- They were fun to fight, but there was never really an explanation as to where the Hunters came from. Were they a new type of synth that the Combine just put into combat? Were they always around but just not in the city? Alyx wasn't familiar with them but the guys at White Forest seemed to know all about them, and were even talking about fighting them "in the city," when we didn't see a single one of them while we were there, and there weren't any in the Citadel either.

- The final battle felt a little "empty" without soldiers. Maybe it would have made it too difficult, or it was meant to show that the Combine's ground forces were almost completely depleted by that point, having used most of them up on the first assault on White Forest and then sending the Striders in as a last ditch effort. A little more help would have been nice too. Sure we were cheered for our efforts but it seemed like "Gordon has to go out and fight off the entire attack while we sit in the base and watch." We have to make sure that not a single Strider is able to attack the base but it's not urgent enough for the rest of the people sitting around doing nothing to go out and fight to the last? There was like one guy at each shack and a couple of dudes with RPGs near the base. Limiting the amount of help you have was obviously for gameplay purposes but in terms of the game universe there should have been more rebel fighters in the field.

The map was simply too big to have a Rebel at each and every turn. You'd be looking at dozens and dozens of Rebels if what you wanted happened.

Speaking of Xen creatures, Bullsquids do exist in the world because that's what took Eli's leg, according to Valve.

I reckon they'll include Houndeyes in Ep3, after all the Cinematic Physics could work in conjunction with their shock attack.
