Immersed in game

Do you think that in HL2 you will be as immersed (if not more) as you were in HL1?

I predict for me it'll be very slightly less, because there are more characters you now "know" personally, and Gordon will be more involved with them, not really you. In HL1 it didn't matter as much because you didn't "know" any of them character wise or have obligations (long term) towards a goal with that character. Overall I think I'll enjoy HL2 more though.

What do you guys think?

well i got a bit of a glimps of the story from the beta

But from what i was shown...

HL2's story will be a fricken movie...

You're going to be so into it... you're not going to answer the phone when your gf calls...

You wont eat for a week cause you'll be playing it...

You will have no social life outside of HL2...

It will be your new god...

You will praise it every sunday.

its about STORY AND NOT JSUT GRAPHICS. Deus Ex. Graphics where not that great, but the story was amazing i loved it. And the HL storyline left me speechless at the end of the game. Excelently well done, it dident leave you hanging in certian parts. you dotn get 'caught up' in other things along the game. Quick and flowing well was hte story line. In short...perfect. Hl2 will have slightly more immersive story line. but it will quicken your pulse non the less eh lads? Hehe. Well no matter what, i will buy HL2. and i will NOT paly the beta

I really dont see why everyone is "anti-beta"

yea... its illegal i know... but think about it..

If a bank all of a sudden blew up infront of a crowd of people...

And money was flying EVERYWHERE....

a $100 bill lands on your head....

Would you just keep walking?


there are some parts that kinda tell the story... but to see how much the final product has improved from the beta will really be an AWSOME experince to me... because you will understand so much more of the story.. and really get to experience HL2 to the fullest rather than some... "demo"...

Playing the beta would be like flipping to a movie when it's half way over, watching 40 minutes of it, and then leaving.

That means when you watch the entire thing, it'll suck because there will be this big boring part.
When HL2 comes out I'd rather have the storyline come all at once as I play through it, rather than have seen some major parts of it months before.
Tidbits are ok (IE: Finding out what the combine soldiers are specifically which I saw in a beta screenshot) but things other than that- too much.

not to mention valve have worked so hard to keep things secret.. just to surprise US, and this is how we repay them..
I found out a lot of things I wish I had not, just by people linking to beta shots..
what a bummer.. think how pissed you would be if for 5 years you kept a lid on something just for things to get outta hand near the end.
anyway that being said, I really really really cant wait for the full game..

WE didn't do anythign wrong. the HACKER was the one who screwed valve, not the community. although i suspect this hacker was a disgruntled community member, maybe even a member on this forum. maybe even someone who still posts here to this day.

anyway valve wants to get paid for their 5 years of hard work, i doubt us being surprised about hl2 is high up on their priority list. they aren't crushed or loathing in despair, guys, they still know they are going to make killer sales, especially because of the ongoing MP that will be perpetuated with mods. so the amount of sorrow i have for valve is small, because face it, they are going to make a killing in sales, and most likely adopt more mods and go retail with them like CS and DOD. no company will release a game with the source. there will still be gaming companies that license source, there already are several that have it licensed. valve has it good, folks, and im not ;(

i think one thing the helped hl1 be so immersive was that there wasn't really any cutscenes or levels, per se. it seems like a preety small difference, but i think it definatley made a huge impact on the gamer. like the opening scene, with the credits rolling, and being able to observe black mesa from the eyes of gordon. and when you set up the experiment and everything goes horribly wrong...brilliant. i hope hl2 keeps to this formula.

I was agreeing with him on his outlook on how we tend to spoil things for ourselves. I wasnt laying blame on anyone, dont get me wrong.. shit happens, I never said valve are having any trouble or even have a care in the world.
I was however making a general statement as to our (not you and me) "human" nature. I do think its unfortunate that we found out a lot about hl2 from a beta rather than the excitement one can feel firsthand playing it.. like one of them new headcrab thingamabobs, its always nice to see it and be (pleasantly? hehe) surprised by it ingame.
valve have stated that was their intention al along, its why they kept a lid on details (wether or not thats bullshit is up to speculation) but it is where I drew my point of view from.

without regressing into a fanboy debate or morals and ethics discussion it still comes down to one thing
"we are all responsible" (well except those who didnt touch the beta)
if you downloaded/played the beta you have acknowledged it is "ok" to do so.
but dont get me wrong.. that doesnt make you an evil person... and it doesnt mean your hurting valve, but when you try and place blame soley on the hacker your just displacing your guilt.

(please note I am a mature -well I consider myself mature enough- individual, I in no way am attacking anyone, these are my views, do not mistake them for fact nor negativity based on self-righteousness, as it is not the case.
