With the sexy G-Man video comming out, I think people didn't notice some new important emails from Valve (info thread):

Somebody was asking about normal maps yesterday:
- A *lot* of memory is consumed by normal maps, since they can't be compressed well. We may ship uncompressed normal maps for the 256 MB cards if it turns out to be a big enough visual improvement. Future updates (not to mention mods) will contain high-end content that use ever-larger amounts of normal maps.
And this is interesting:
Yes, you can give an NPC a weapon.
The problem we have is that in play-testing, people will sometimes give an NPC the wrong weapon, and want it back, and then shoot the NPC to get it back, which is, well, not really what we had in mind. So we're still tinkering with this. NPCs also give you weapons. NPCs will pick up weapons they find.
