Short and sweet.

I'm making an almost totally dark for map for CS, many areas are pitch black. The idea is that the player has to use the flashlight, or the nightvision. It's based totally indoors, so there's no skybox. Is there a way to create ambient light? It's irritating to have to place loads of lights, and in addition, the nightvision only works when there is light, so there needs to be an even amount of light throughout the level.

just use lots of dynamic lights so theres really shadowy corners n stuff. then the players can take cover in the shadows and also have to use nightvision as well as their flashlight. i made a really dark map set in a underground cavern thing but it was juts really annoying to play.

Worldspawn (Map --> Map Properties) supports a _minlight key, which controls the minimum light level of almost everything in the map; the value is a real number between 0.0 and 2.0 inclusive, where 0.0 is black and 2.0 is fullbright.

Is their a way to change the color of the ambient light?

i thought ambient light was controlled by the light_environment, and a skybox was unnecessary

you have to have a skybox for light_environment to work, and if a room is isolated from that skybox it won't be affected.

Excuse my noobletness but how do you set _minlight?

I downloaded the Custom FGD in Raeven0's Sig, and then it's in the Map -> Map Properties.
