hey ppl. I bought Half life 2 a while ago, installed it and everything worked fine. But now I wish to play some more after a while and now it gives me this error when inserting CD 4 at installation. >>

Error 1334. the file 'base_source_shared_sound.gcf' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'hl24.cab.'This could indicate a netword error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.

My CD's are well looked at so cant be a scratch or something...what can I do to fix this porblem.

Any help would be great.
Thanks

Perhaps the CD has become corrupted somehow, you could ask for a replacement at the store you got it from, otherwise I don't know, try making a virtual CD thing?

Do you have any virtual drive/cd-copying programs like Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools installed on your computer? They are known to cause problems with HL2's installation.. so uninstall them if you have em. I've had this error myself and it turns out that bad memory was causing it for me.

There is a slip of paper that came in your box talking about this. Cancel the installation, start it over again, make sure to pick all the options for install, then go.

After you have installed, you can remove what you don't want.

I did do the virtual drive thing, but still same errror. this is so weird !
