So I've purchased Half-Life 2. And now I'm having installation problems, probably because I've used pirate version earlier. I have a feeling this will end with a re-installation of Windows, but I hope any of you will aid me in this task. Hopefully.

I uninstalled every piece of the pirate HL2. Steam, HL2, CS:S.

From this point, I write evrything about the purchased Half-Life 2. After installing Steam, it did not pop up asking me to Create an Account or Login, like it did when installing a pirate HL2 earlier. So during HL2's installation, I created an account. After installing Half-Life 2, I open Play Games in Steam, and Half-Life 2 isn't in my games! Nor is CS:S. So I clicked Browse Games, Register a product I already own, entered the serial for HL2, and it prompted me to install a Retail Package of HL2. Weird. I uninstalled Half-Life 2, and as we speak, I'm installing it the second time, this time I even registered my copy of HL2 on Vivendi's site. I seriously doubt something's going to change the second time. Any ideas?

EDIT: Nevermind, I think it's working now. Now I understand why everybody hates Steam. :|

Waht was your fix? Maybe if you type it here people with the same problem can read it.

And tut tut at the pirated version. You know those don't work past certain points so what's the point :P

I don't know for sure, because everything worked for me after the second re-install, but I think that mostly the problem was that I did not create an account immediately before installing Half-Life 2 along with CS:S. Thus my account probably wasn't able to find any games installed and kept prompting to install a retail package of HL2 each time I typed in a serial. When I re-installed HL2 along with CS:S, created an account BEFORE installing, and registered my copy with Vivendi, everything worked fine.

QFT. Didn't know I couldn't access mods with a pirate version. HL2 is 25% about mods, and 25% online play. So it's kind of you lose half the game experience. And I also wanted to have at least one decent original game in my shelves. :P
