My favorite thing about Half-life 2 has got to be when the characters speak, especially Dr Breen and Judith Mossman. Both are excellent characters in their own way. The letter from "Concerned", the rant about Gordon Freeman... So awesome. Does anyone appreciate the quality given to the presentation in terms of voice acting, animation, and sound design?

Breen is definitely one of the highpoints in the game when it comes to acting and animation. The voice acting is superb, as is the dialouge he reads, and his facial animations always fit what he says perfectly

Breen was definitely a highlight, he was fantastic. The voice acting and the lines etc were superb.

I agree. I actually reloaded a Nova Prospect save just to stand and listen to Breen's message(s) to the combine overwatch...but that was before I extracted all of his speeches with GCFscape

AJ, Samon, YOU BOTH spelled it wrong, it's "definitely". :p

Oh yeah? Try to prove I did it, you'll never win!

I believe him. :o

I don't think there are any games with better character animations/acting than HL2.

yeah, they definitely didnt spell definitely wrong. but yes, HL2 voice acting was superb

I think that, out of all the characters, Breen was certainly the best-made when it came to his dialogue, his animation, and his facial expressions. It was always a treat to see/hear him in action.

I've listened to all his monologues through GCF Scape and I really appreciate the amount of work that went into him.

I'd actually argue that Timesplitters 3 comes close (although it's all towards comedic value and not emotion). But that may be because I'm a Timesplitters fanboy. :p

"It's time to spl- err. I gotta go."
"But...Ah well too old for me anyway."
On topic: Errm, yes. I love Breen and his monologues!
"Tell me Dr Freeman, now you have destroyed so much, what is it exactly that you created? Can you name me one thing? I thought not!" I was thinking what everybody must've been thinking then, just one word coming to my mind: Freedom.

Where can I find them? I haven't found them in half-life 2 content.cfg

Totally agree - Breen is amazing, voice acting is perfect and the animations fit them so well, it's breathtaking. Watching Breen on monitors felt like looking at a real person. I actually hated him! I love the scene in the citadel - he really laughs there!

Yes, I haven't yet seen a game that would have animations and model acting anywhere close to Half-Life 2. The same goes for maps and the amount of details on them and it's nearly a year since the game has been released and over two years since we first saw it - no other game has come near the quality of HL2.

I keep saying this anywhere I can - HL2 is the best singleplayer game I have ever played on a computer.

Actually, I was thinking "Shit, he actually has a point there".

I walked into the citadel all gung-ho and full of righteousness, but then I ended up feeling like an unwitting tool that may bring about a sorry end for being unable to see the big picture.

I actually thought Breen sort of had a point, but it was quickly dismissed when I remembered the stalkers and all the other happenings.

What I thought was, f*ck, he has a point.

My mental response was "I am not an instrument of creation...but a God of Destruction!".....The Super Grav Gun was going to my head methinks.

Yeah ok, so apart from Sulkdodds, I'm the cheesiest. I still don't know where I can find Breen's speeches though :(

Ditto. When he asked me to name even one thing, that was probably one place where gordon's slience was more approriate than anywhere else cause I sure as **** didn't have an answer.

Awww c'mon. Isn't it oh so very obvious that you're liberating everyone?

Yeah but how much of City 17's population survived the rebellion? Not to mention how many are going to die in Aftermath. Or all those rebels who got killed when Civil Protection destroyed the underground railroad because of you.

It was definitely a moment where Gordon's silence fit. My thoughts then were "He has a point, I don't even know what the consequences will be". After all, Gordon is sent to City17 by te G-Man, and wouldn't have had any idea if it was the G-Man's plan to make the Combine so angry at Earth that they'd send more ships and just blow all of Earth up!

I was thinking, "Hey it's not my fault I'm just being pushed around by a bunch of jerks and don't even know what I'm doing!"

Same, I spent like 5 minutes thinking about it.

Actually, I just thought:
"Screw you, go to hell."

That's what I thought. No way I was gonna start to believe his insane propaganda now.

Shame on the rest of you though.

When he started talking in the Citidel I began really storming through the Combine Troops and destroying everything I could.

It was pretty obvious from everything I'd seen up to that point that all Breen was 'creating' was the rape of Earth and Humanity. He needed to pay...

wow, that's exactly what I was thinking, his monologes were always very powerful, mentally and emotionally, it really made you think about his character and the world around you

ya but it had to be done, if they wouldnt have fought right then and there then the citizens spirits would have been more broken over time and less willing to fight for freedom.

i loved listening to Breen, id just stop playing to listen. my fav quote has to be this......

"How could one man have slipped through your forces' fingers, time and time again? How's it possible? This is not some agent provocateur or highly trained assassin we are discussing. Gordon Freeman is a theoretical physicist who had hardly earned the distinction of his Ph.D. at the time of the Black Mesa Incident. I have good reason to believe that in the intervening years he was in a state that precluded further development of covert skills. The man you have consistently failed to slow, let alone capture, is by all standards, simply that - an ordinary man."

whew kinda long

It actually concerns me, when so obviously the bad guy is portrayed as evil and malign, perhaps he is partly right?

Then I remind myself that it's not the decisions we choose, only the paths we take.
