Wow, good luck. Stay safe.

I always had so much fun at camp.

Good luck, man. I may not always (or even often :p) agree with you, but I'm glad to see you doing such a powerful thing with yourself.

ooooo tell us how you 'somehow joined'!!!

Good job signing yourself up for something and then wanting someone to tell you about it. Real logical move right there, I guess we will be seeing you not to long in September saying you got discharged from bootcamp.

No, but my stepfather was in the Marines several years ago. He's now in the National Guard and finds it comparitively relaxed and loose--and he doesn't like that.

"So this one night in Vegas I got really hammered and started making out with this stripper Susie. Well long story short, I'm in the marines now"

finally put your money where your mouth is ..good for you ....dont shoot any babies (I guess it's too much to ask that you do the same for women and the elderly?)

From the halls of Mon-teee-zuuuuUUma, to the shores of Tripoooliiiiiii~

Uhh have fun...what MOS ya gonna take?

I was going to go into the marines but am going air force instead. As cool is it would be to break someone skull with the strength of your fist and roundhouse kick peoples heads off and get to carry a gun...the air force has awsome schooling and even better benefits for when your out. Air Force helps ya out more when your no longer in the military. Skills like computer programming are desired while shooting terrorists doesn't have too large a workforce out of military.

Anyways...marines...lets see. Oh have fun waking up before breakfast and running 20 miles with full battle gear before breakfast as a warm up. yeah...thats right think its a joke till your puking up blood. Boot is going to be a bitch, the first 1/3rd is called breakdown and after that it gets a little better and they then retrain you to think the marine way. You will come out with your chest all puffed up full of pride and be able to serve a real ass kicking. After that you go to school whether its infantry or whatever. Then you go to Iraq and get shelled in the middle of the night, donate blood for the marines in the hospital or when they get ambushed and constantly get torn up by the infidels because they hate someone else. Have fun!

I seriously hope you're kidding. Sure basic training will be tough, the Marines do consider themselves to be elite for a reason, but saying that he'll be doing 20 mile runs every day carrying a 50 pound pack is a little excessive. If he's planning on becoming, err, trying to become a Recon Marine that's a pretty apt description of their conditioning runs, but he won't be a twitching mass of muscle ready to bite the head off of anyone who so much as looks at him the wrong way just because he completed the Marine's basic training.

Just remember gh0st, mind over matter, if you don't mind, it don't matter. Good luck. :)

I respect you more now that you've, as Stern said, put your money where your mouth is.

Good luck mate, not quite the same as our marines but you should be alright.

You asshole. I told you not to join back when I told you my cousin was thinking of joining. Now he's off to bootcamp in california. He should of picked navy or following family tradition... air force. :(

Damn you. Marines is not the way to go in this day and age.

NAVY FTW!

Sit in big boats for months on end, blowing shit up from the safety of your airconditioned quarters.

Just work on your physical fitness a lot, running, pressups, situps, pullups, etc.

I hope you don't get abducted by terrorists and beheaded! Also, watch out for those warcrimes, nasty business! When your platoon leader says to shoot the civillians, you say no!

HOW DO YOU SHOOT DEFENSELESS WOMEN AND CHILDREN?!

You don't lead 'em as much.

Remember to shoot first and ask questions later Marine!

Salute your commander and cheifs photo every morning and remember you are one of the good guys so God will always favour your side of the story.

God salutes you...not.

If you're going to go through basic, you can kiss your personality goodbye.. you will change.

Thats awesome. I hope that you don't get blown up. :p

Or getting close-quarters battle with enemy gunboats, outnumbered, and finally being sunk to the bottom of the sea, after watching all your comrades burn alive and get their heads blown up.

I remember another forumnite signing up in the military, GhostValkyrie was it? Does he still frequent these boards? He can advise you on the telling your mom part.

Yep, this is the problem i had with the royal marines.
Having a strong personality did not make me suitable for it, if i would have carried on there would have been serious problems.

They break you down and then build you up again, how they want.

Yeah, did all physical, went along had interview sent in paperwork and everything but i left before i was swallowed into it.

someone recommended that I go do communications/logistics for the army, but the whole meat-head attitude of the military made it a definite no-no.

probably would have enjoyed it though, if I were up to scratch.

god even the butt ugly women get harrassed, you'd have a entourage of suitors in a matter of seconds bliink

"look out grenade! omg bliink is in the way!!"

<entire platoon jumps on grenade, bliink is sole survivor>

;)

I wish I could've been here to witness this incredible mistake, and advise the young man join.
But It seems I'm years too late. Hopefully you're still alive.

I haven't been here in ages.

I'd like to tell this forum I've changed a lot, and the courage and foolishness I possessed worked to my advantage to educate myself. But that is because I'm one of the lucky ones that are still alive.
