Hello,

Im a big fan of Half Life 2, I had it when it came out but since I had no available Interent connection I sold it after completing the Single player game.

Im going to buy the standard verion of half life (its only £15 now!!) coz I got Interent now. I want to now, will I be able to play counter strike source too? Is it a FREE download from STEAM?

Thanks

Thanks Pesmerga!! I got a new rig ya see:

Athlon64 3200
1GB Corsair RAM
GeForce 7600GT 256 PCIE
Asus A8N-SLI
17" TFT

I wanna see HL2 on this!! I had it on my Lapto, which only had a GeForce Go 5700 , but it still ran well on mimimum details. Hopefully I will be able to play on MAX settings now :naughty:

OMG!! I just thought "Wonder if theres a HL2 demo"... AND THERE IS!!

I spent like 1 hour surfin the net looking to BUY HL2 too!! Its too late now, im gonna download it in the morning

(silly me) :rolling:

Distrubed, i can DOWNLOAD it for FREE via STEAM though cant I?

Wrong, if you're buying the EA retail package of HL2 you won't get CS:S.

What the hell crawled up your ass.

Edit - Yeah, what elrasho said, you can still download it, so you still get CS:S.

Are you implying he was short with you? Because he just gave a different answer...

Be careful on the package you buy, VALVe has brought out several different versions with HL2 and no multiplayer, or just multiplayer games or both combined. Have a look around on steam for what you want and you can download everything you need from steam after purchase. Your new system will run it sweetly.

CS:S does not nesisarily come with HL2. If you buy the just HL2 package through Steam you get no multiplayer games at all IIRC.

I think you can download the Half Life 2 demo over Steam.

And why on Earth were you searching sites to buy Half Life 2? Just download Steam and click on Half Life 2 in the store, it downloads when you enter in your credit card details.

I dont want to download via Steam coz my interent connection is rubbish, it disconnected after 15mins (apparently Ive gone over my monthly usage!) Thats why Im after a DVD-ROM of the game, seen one on Ebay £15 brand new

Don't buy it on ebay, if you'd have done your reading you'd have seen valve saying don't buy HL2 from ebay. Use your head or you're going to come out with no game...

Because if the copy is already registered you're screwed and have to pay more for a new CD-key.

If its brand new from the retailer on ebay, go ahead. But if it's pre-owned it is likely to have the cd-key registered to another steam account. Listen to this bit carefully. Once the cd-key is registered to an account, it can't be registered again to another account (unless the seller pays $10 to remove it, which is unlikely nor specified in most bids). So the account is worth the money with the games on...essentially an email and password, but its illegal to sell these as valve own them (technically). So basically, always buy new, or from a trustworthy person. Ebay doesn't fill this criteria (unless you buy from a retailer on ebay). Buy from the shops or (e.g. GAME) or Steam. Don't take this as trying to influence your decision, its help so you don't get screwed over.

Thanks for the info. I have sent the member an email asking if its brand new and the CD key hasnty been registered. I went to GAME today and they said that production has been stoed for HL2. U can only get it via STEAM. Although the PLATINUM edition is coming out on May 31st. I CANT WAIT THAT LOOOOONG!!

I layed the demo and it loo brilliant on my 7600GT!! There are all these lighting effects that Ive never seen before (even in FEAR). Oh and one more thing, can I only play that Lost Coast level with full copy of HL2? I wanna see them HDR Lighting effects

Yes, when you have HL2 you will be able to play Lost Coast, however its not on any of the discs sold as retail. Lost Coast is downloadable for free (when you own HL2) through steam, and it includes HDR. Hope you have broadband, if so it won't take very long.

I have broadband (with Tiscali though :flame: )

I was wondering, if I buy HL2 over STEAM how much would it cost me? I live in the UK see. And can I make a backup coy onto a DVD too?

Based on completely unsubstantiated calculations, £17 (probably wrong). And yes.

It would tae AAAGES to download though, can I PAUSE the download and then start again another time? Can u definanly back up the files onto a DVD? so that if I was to format my HD I could just ut the DVD in and install HL2 from there?

Yes and yes. And Lost Coast is worth the download time IMO.

That sounds a bit odd. I went for almost 2 months once without going in online mode IIRC and no proplems.

I know I got a steam acc for HL1, but I used the non-steam version from the other copy I had for a while, pretty much until CS:Source came out, waaay more than 2 months. I'd guess he's having trouble because of a bad cd key. Anyway, the only thing I can tell you on that front is it doesn't matter whether you buy box or over steam, it comes with steam either way. And also that I've never had any trouble with it.

Im leaning towards buying from steam now BUT Ive been reading this thread:

http://discuss.futuremark.com/forum...076608&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart=1

and now Im having second thoughts. Does ur Steam account get disabled if u dont use it often?

Yes continue believing in people like this, his account got disabled because he was trying to do something illegal with it. VALVe doesn't make screw ups on disabling accounts at all.

Maybe he should quit trying to come fraud/illegal activity.

Please answer the following. You own a business. People have paid you for a service/product. You deny them said service/product. How long are you in business?

As long as they have a choise in the matter, valve would never disable your account, unless you got it fraudulently.

ok with the l8ist package at ur local wal-mart and everything, u can get a dvd(or 2?) that has cs:s and half-life2 dm. nice deal in my opinion. thats the hard case. i think it also has half-life 1 source.
