Is it just me or did this suck?

I'm playing through it for my first proper time (I played bits n' bobs at a mates during release) and I'm glad I've got more to play with the Orange Box, but maybe I shouldn't have watched/read up so much Episode Two stuff because at the moment this is feeling quite shadowed to all the stuff I've seen of Episode Two. I didn't enjoy the vent crawls and laster wire stuff at all simply because they reminded me too much of HL1 and, whilst a good game, I find that stuff just tedious.

That, and I don't like closed spaces with posion headcrabs. :( That said, it is fun, and well worth it, I'm just kind of running through, itching to get at Episode 2.

I finally finished Ep.2 and it really is the best ive seen so far.

But what makes me sad is the ending:(.
It's really hard to hear Alyx cry there as the screen fades to black.

Heartless bastard. ;/

Indeed.

I enjoyed Lowlife, if only because it was pitch-black some of the time. I thought the elevator battle was fun because it was hectic and uncertain (I tend to like those types of battles). Ravenholm had a pretty good atmosphere, but the gameplay was meh.

DAng, did i post that Ep.2 thing here?
Heh, oops...wrong forum...:E

Back on topic: There were only 2 reasons, why i wanted to play Lowlife:

1.For the elevator scene.
2.To see the remains of a Zombines head, after you pry off that headcrab.

I was pleased with all of the urban combat in e1,kinda upset with its lack in e2
but e3 is gonna be in a helicopter,then a boat=)

apparently,Zomnines have no head...:bounce:can you say shotgun!

Episode 1, as a whole, was much better than HL2 in the gameplay department; more refined and more interesting. The first two chapters - Undue Alarm and Direct Intervention - are easily the best Valve have ever produced.

Agreed. Plus I thought the AI was fantastic, or Alyx at any rate. The first time around I laughed very hard when Alyx makes the Zombie impersonation plus the joke about is there room for two in that suit? She was just superbly programmed.

Lowlife was a pain indeed, but in a good way. Yes your flashlight keeps going out but thats the point, to force you to work out how to maximise it's potential. The car park though I wasn't so keen on. It was a chore to be honest.

I felt the quality dipped towards the end especially with the escort mission, after the 3rd or 4th time I was thinking, not again. It was getting very tedious by that point. I can only guess that Valve made you make all those trips because they were worried it was too short and did this to try and pad it out a bit. The Strider battle was ok, but too restricted in terms of environment. There was no alternative but to hide behind the corrugated iron sheets. At least in the Plaza in HL2 you have some choice as to where you want to take out the Striders. The other problem I have with it is how unlikely is it that you climb up a ladder and just happen to find a crate and plenty of rockets? In the Plaza at least there is an NPC who comes and tells you that they've dropped off a crate of rockets for you to help take out the Striders which are tearing up the city which is plausible, just climbing up a ladder in a train station and finding a crate of rockets conveniantly placed there, is not.

The final flight from the city in the train was simply awesome. Awesome to the max.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ravenholm with Father Grigori > Lowlife
Ravenhom with out Father Grigori < Lowlife

Although Ravenholm did have good atmosphere.
