Is it possible to make a mod that is a standalone app that does not run on steam?

Dark messiah of might and magic for example, that is a mod that doesn't need to run on steam if you buy it at a store.

It's not a mod, it's a standalone game that has had access to the full Source engine, while all we get is the Source SDK, which mods Half-Life 2. HL2 requires Steam.

Then as far as we're concerned, it cannot be done.

If you wish to pursue illegal methods, do it on another forum.

(not to mention no-one will play your mod if that's the case and you can't really offer it for download without going through warez channels since HL2 mod channels won't allow it)

and you could not sell it legally using an illegal implementation. So it's really pointless to even consider it.
