Ok, when I play HL2 soemtimes when I get blacked out I see a small picture of Alyx in the coner of my screen. Does this happen normally?

Another questoin:
At the end of HL2 when the whole thing pauses and gman talks to you. I remeber, while playing on my friends computer that he walks are around and stuff (like wipes some dirt off of Alyx and then he goes throught the wierd door thing) On my comp it just goes black and I just listen to him talk. Then I here the sound of the door and the game ends. Can anybody help me? Is it my computer that's the problem?

What sort of system specs do you have? Particularly the video card...

hmmm, interesting. No wait, that other thing. Annoying...

Have you tryed verifying your client data? Sounds like it could be missing some stuff.

No, I think it's something else. I have the same video card and it works fine. Try updating drivers and validating your steam cache files.

i think its just your video drivers try updating them.

So I am just going to assume that this hasn't happened to anybody else. Right?

everyone has different computers, settings, and drivers, so some might not have it, but we are jsut giving you suggestions.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440
And your are having graphics problems with HL2? No way.......

.....EEEEEEEEEEEEHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHaHahahahahahahaah...

Stop.......I........can't breath............

...........help..........

OK, I'm good now...

Ok.

Just a sec...

Ok.

You people honestly expect too much sometimes. If you are using such an outdated P.O.S. card, you can't expect games - especially ones that changed the very definition of "great graphics" and FPS games etc- to run all that well. The fact that it even runs on that card at all, is a credit to Valve.

You MUST see that complaining that HL2 doesn't run properly on your GFX card is like complaining that your bicycle doesn't do 100kph (60mph for you non-metric yanks) on the freeway. Seriously. If it's all you could afford then fine, but don't complain about it. It's NOT a bug with HL2, or with your PC. It's a bug with you not updating your system since 1976.

Well I have an MX4000 on my old pc back home, nothing ever went wrong, but it's probably just driver issues with his card.

He's not really complaining.

surfer has the same card but no such problem. I once had a worse card and had no such problem.

Complaining? Nah.

I had that card. No problems that were the card's fault. (Hell, the only problems I had on that one was that the graphics were crap. And by crap, i mean not brilliant high-res awesomeness, merely beautiful.)

NOTHING is going wrong. That's what I was trying to say. Do you people even READ? It's running slow and crappy, exactly as it should in todays modern PC's. What more could you expect from a $10 card?

"Oh no... my $10 card is NOT performing like a $200 card! What is wrong with it!?!?"

Wow. Just Wow.

Weird, because the problems he described did not happen when I was using a card of the same model and make to run HL2, so YES something is going wrong.

Shasta you've seriously got to stop accusing people of not reading when you yourself don't.

Oh should I say; troll.

OK,
I realize that I have a crappy card that is pretty old. Please understand that I am not a scholar of graphics cards (though with my prehistoric card I certainly could be and ancient scholar :P
I wasn't trying to complain I was just wondering what was wrong. If it was my comp, my card, my files. How else am I supposed to fix the problem if I don't know what the problem is?!?!

Shatrollsta, why do you troll so much?

Oh, and yea, I'd say that you should re-update your drivers. Maybe not. I don't know.

Pointing out what SHOULD be obvious is not trolling. It's called being realistic. Even if the thread-starter didn't know his card was crap, most of you did, and he knows now too.

Why can none of you understand that it is just like saying "my sega master system USED to work, but now it doesn't. Also, it won't work with the latest ground-breaking games. What is going wrong?????"

And the rest of you, instead of going "yeah, that's pretty old, it had it's day, you really should upgrade" you are saying "well MINE still goes, so yours should too..."

Things wear out. Deal with it.

To keep with the analogy - even IF you "fixed" the sega, it's still a fu*king sega. Not much use to anyone. Like the GFX card. I'm not trying to be mean, or "troll". Get your daily dose of reality, and be realistic. A $10 card is not practical when trying to run modern games. End of story. If you want to believe otherwise, then fill your PC with $10 parts, and let the happy little elves sprinkle their magical dust on it. I'm sure it will be the best PC around.

So I am just going to assume that this hasn't happened to anybody else. Right?

This was happening to me in the beginning and end G-Man sequences of Half-Life 2, with my GeForce 7800 graphics card. I think it's just an issue with an older release of the Nvidia drivers, because I'm pretty sure this problem got fixed when I updated my drivers, so I suggest you try updating your drivers if you haven't already.

Hello? I HAD THE EXACT SAME CARD AS HIM AND IT WORKED FINE. HE HAS A PROBLEM WITH HIS CARD. I SUSPECT DRIVER ISSUES.

/EDIT Sorry, the massive amounts of sarcasm in that last post triggered my capslock. And I know you're not trolling, you're just vigerously defending your position.

That was your reply after I had JUST said:

FFS.

To defend my position, it seems I must first drum my position into your heads!

Well, if mine still goes, then his SHOULD go as well, shouldn't it?

Ah, i guess it's irrellevent because he's never posted again. *wanders off into the night*

I have a car. It goes. There is a car that has been sitting on the side of the road for a year. The EXACT same model as mine. It does NOT go.

Why SHOULD something work, just because someone else has the same thing, and theirs works? That is some pretty fu*ked logic.

You're probably right about that.
