Isn't Valve lucky to have fans like us?

So forgiving we all are, Valves lucky to have fans like us. I mean that with a deep passion. We should give ourselves a pat on the back for all the rigamaroll we have been through with this game. I mean the numerous broken release dates over the past year.

After all WE are the ones who make Valve who they are. WE are the ones who pays every Valve employees salary's. So for all that are confused. Valve doesent pwn you. You all pwn them. Bigtime. They know it and you should know it too.

So maybe its time to give something back to the people that made them. Maybe their gonna throw a fastball instead of curve this time and release it a bit earlier that everyone is speculating. It would not only be fitting, it would be very fair to the people that made valve who they are today. US. We. The Fans. The Players. A tolerent swell group of mofo's if you ask me.

While you may be right about part of that, VALVe gave us the quality product that ALLOWED us to make them what they are. If they didn't pour their heart and soul into Half-Life, we probably wouldn't be here today with as much enthusiasm (SP) as we have.

That is a very good point and it can't be denied. Reminds me of what came 1st the chicken or the egg. Either way a good point.

yep we make valve who they are all right, nothing to do with the programmers, artists, skinners, testers, storywriters or anyone like that, yep we sure make valve who they are, in fact, we "pwn" valve so much why dont they just give us free money??? and then maybe gabe could give me a piggyback while wearing a gordon facemasks??? y'think?

They pay us with a great game, we give them the money. Besides if they did give us free money it would be our own money. In case you missed the point there.

It would not only be fitting, it would be very fair to the people that made the half life community what it is today. THEM. THEY. Valve. The original community givers. Actually, Valve don't owe us anything. We can't say "you owe us a lot because we bought your game" because we're all fickle. If Half-Life 2 turns out to be the worstest* game ever, we'd all be complaining straight away. It's strange to read when people think that Valve owe them something. We merely paid for a product, we didn't give them money without asking for anying in return. I bought a packet of crisps the other day, but I don't go round saying that Walkers Crisps owe me for being such a good consumer.

On a different note, you have the most odd defination of numerous I've come across (with the exception of some people who take the word "numerous" to mean "purple", but I made them up). Valve have only every given one exact release date for Half-Life 2. That's far from numerous. And in another thread you told Mr Redundant that you were going to point out his "numerous" spelling mistakes, you then proceedly to highlight two words.

Numerous means far more than just "1 or 2".

That is very cute, and you are obviously a bright person. But rather than pick apart every line of that and explain why its wrong, most that frequent these forums can do that for themsel ves. I'll just stress the most important error in what you said. Valve is in buisiness to make money. They will take your credit card number, your cash or check, and thats all the thanks they need. Don't fool yourself into thinking it's about anything more than its about making money, and that money comes out of the customers pockets. You thanked them the day you paid for hl1. They make the sdk public because they thought it would be more profitable. And it looks like they were right. It's what made CS a phenomenon. An extremley profitable one at that. Like Gabe said a long time ago he doesent care if it takes another year and another million dollars. U think its cause they have a million to waste? It's because they made one of the smartest business decisions in gaming by making it public. It's not your thanks their going to need to make hl3. Their not going to throw thier arms in the air and say "these fans are so ungreatful, ima find a new job". The consumer is the one that has the power, at least in America. The world would be an evil place if we diddnt.

Wow, you make it sound like the employees at Valve are all wearing tophats, smoking cigars, drinking wine and laughing at we foolish consumers for wanting to buy their product.

...

Sure they want to make money, but I think they may be looking to achieve a little more than that. For developers, I would think they get a sense of pride once they get a kick ass title out the door. This goes double for Valve because they poured a hella lot of time and resources into HL2s production.

I think you are making Valve look too much like a faceless corporation that views most people like credit card numbers. From what I can tell, they are a good group of people, and aren't really as greedy as you make them seem.

Usually you start a paragraph with the topic. So I just wanted to point out that I never said nor was the point that valve owed us anything. So lets keep the word twisting to a minimum Sir.

Thanks

It is the other way around ...

... we are lucky to have a developer like Valve.

Word twisting is popular around here I see. I diddnt say a word of that.

I fail to see the twist. You clearly implied by the tone of your post that Valve owe us.

Does it matter whether I start a paragraph with a topic or not?

I agree, it goes both ways. But the chicken and the egg debate is old and worn.

further more its not fair to take what i said in that reply out of context. It was a reply to the guy who was stating that we should thank valve for making a great game. When you put that quote all by itself its out of context, and your reply would make sence. But in response to the gentlemens post about we should thank them, it makes sense.

Whats it called when someone takes what you say and repeats it by itself out of context? Then responds. Thers a word for it I just cant remember what it is.

Quite possibly one of the funniest rebuttal statements I've read in some time.

That's not what you said in your first post. Look, I'll quote it all, and highlight the parts in which you strongly implied that Valve owe us something.

Ok then ill clarify for you. I don't think Valve ows us anything. The point was that we are some loyal devoted fans. I can see how it would be easy to interperate it the way you did.

I fail to see what makes my horse high? Is my opinion any lower than yours? Or is it just the perception that you have? To clarify that I am just a face in the crowd. My opinion is no better than anyone elses. I would be a fool if I thought it was. And really theres no need for the namecalling.

Hmm so if you disagree with what I post, it its pretentious and/or arrogant? Each to their own, but I my friend disagree with that whole ideology and much have a right to do so. As do you. So maybe we can just agree to disagree. And save the namecalling. I wont call you any names, or anyone else who disagree's for that matter. Its all in good discussion.

It's not the opinion. It's the way you reply to people point out little pedantic mistakes in an attempt to belittle them.

Anyway, I'm off to bed. Any lack of reply means I'm asleep, not that I've conceeded any sort of argument.

It wasent the intent to belittle anyone. Please don't feel that way. Feath I will conceed any argument that is occuring. Goodnight and no hard feelings

Actually I somewhat disagree and think it is the other way around. I think "us" gamers are lucky there is a company like VALVe, heh. A company that hires directly from the community based on skills fun factor and success. A company that directly supports and modifies it's game engine for it's mod community. A company that for 5 years patched that engine for "us". At the same time hardly generating much new income from "us". A company that's founder daily answers emails directly from "us". A company that would rather spend all it's money to create a TRUE triple A title, than spit out carbon copy bi-yearly titles.

Sure as lucky as VALVe is to have us, we are alot more lucky to have them, than them to have us. They could be quite profitable, if not more profitable releasing generic crap titles. That cost crap to make than spending 50 million on a title for us. Than they will most likely spend much much more on for years to come patching for us and the mod community. Hell most of us have got 5 years, almost 6 now, of fun great gaming for a one time fee of 49.99.

Tell me what other game has done that?

:afro: :flame:
