So some young guys at my Church were swapping CDs last sunday and one of them was giving another what he claimed was CS: Source (CS2 whatever)... This is bogus right? I find it hard to believe that they could both think it was the real deal having seen the contents of the CD prior to that sunday. One of them claimed it was 'leaked' at E3 just a few weeks ago. This has to be crap, I figure that 'leak' coverage would've been all over game news sites. So what could they be playing that they think is CS:Source? Or was it 'leaked' and just not talked about much b/c people are sick of hearing that crap? Someone help unconfuse me, I didn't want to request a copy to find out what it was on the off chance that it really was real.

probably CS:Condition Zero

Maybe, you'd think the title would show up and they'd notice

Unfourtionally this could easily be true, a few days after the source leek (or what ever, I don't care what you call it) there was a release of HL and CS ported over to source, so it could be true.

That wouldn't be CS:Source though. It'd just be CS running on the Source engine, which is an entirely different thing.

We'd know about that, and most would be playing it by now.

This has not happened, least of all at E3. After last year, I'm surprised Valve even took a live version of the game to E3 tbh.

Things don't get leaked at E3 (excluding that MGS CD theft). The developer/publisher are able to completely control access to the PCs. I'm sure someone attempting to plug a removable hard disk into a demo machine would be noticed pretty quickly...

uhm, what do you think cs source is? its simply cs running on the source engine, and yes it was leaked last year along with the stolen build of the game and hl1 on source engine was also leaked.

I think everyone on these forums would have it by now if a few alter boys had it..

Really....

I thought that just HL2 "Beta" and the source engine were leaked and people ported bits of both games themselves....

I dont actually have the leak. So I cant confirm anything... but that was the impresion I got...

We would have heard that valve converted them alot earlier if those versions came with the leak...

it was seperate from the hl2 "beta" release, released within the same timeframe by the same people though, they also had a seperate release of CS:CZ which was the old build thats now known as "deleted scenes" in the retail CS:CZ...

but yes, it was CS and HL ported to source engine and fully playable with physics, water, etc..etc.

thats a mistake, but even if you did have it youd have to play through steam, right?? Steam wouldnt allow that

a mistake?...? i dont see why...people were hosting multiplayer hl2 games without using steam......

Direct connects, very poor and pointless.

Anyway those "mods" that came out around the leak were just the hl1 content hacked up to run on the leaked build, there was no new content and most of the old content barely worked anyway, just clearing that up.

"hacked up" by valve, and they worked perfectly fine, and of course there was no new content, its just hl and cs ported to the source engine, i never said anything about them having new content.

 alter boys, actually Presbyterians don't have em. But yeah I agree... would it be worthwhile to see what it is they do have? As in actually get it from them? I have a feeling that may touch on illegality though.

CS on source wouldn't have the new, more detailed models, levels, etc. CS:Source would.

Um, offtopic but why are you using this username? weren't you Xtasy0?

...CS: Source is CS on source.

Um, that probably wasn't the smartest thing to say...
LOL

And those kids have no idea what they are talking about. Either the video, cs port to the build, or CS:CZ.

His obviously seperating the two versions of cs we have seen, those being that which is currently available and the one seen at E3. No need to be a nob about it.

how fast, can a leak get on the internet, really, and like how do they ever get there, i'm sorry but i've always wondered that.......

Sai, it depends. A "leak" is leaked by someone with authorized access to a playable build of a game, and usually passes it out to a friend and that friend to another friend, and spreads.. usually lands in the lap of a warez distributor, or someone puts up a torrent. Leaks can be on the net within a day in some cases.

HL2 however was stolen, and whoever cracked into VALVe's servers and stole it immediately handed it over to warez groups, where it spread like wildfire all over IRC/BT. That took a couple of days from the time it was stolen to the time it was public

CS Source is CS running on the source engine, with completely new textures and models.

Running CS on the source engine would not give it new models or anything.

In other words, you are wrong.

Technically the HL2 floating around on the internet is Neither a Leek or a Beta, but for simplicity, we call it those.

why do the hackers always choose the bt or irc servers, are they harder for the authorities to track or something?

They're both fairly hard to track, but the reason they chose them is they're the biggest methods of distributing warez as quickly as possible right now

Ya, as was said earlier CS:Source is completely different than just CS ported to the source engine. Just porting a game to Source doesn't change the models, textures, or map geometry. It would hardly even be noticable graphics wise.
