Wow...they did it again. This is bound to win best game of the year awards all across the board!

Anyhow since I'm new I don't know if this has been discussed before but here's my take on the g-man. The G probably stands for God and you're freeman..a free man. The thing that I find funny about this is that it's ironic that your name is freeman and you're still controlled by some greater power. Sort of makes me think of the idea of Determinism. You're supposedly free but you're really not making any true choices.

You're not the first (nor, I suspect, will you be the last) to front the "G-Man is God" theory. Personally, I have never been a supporter of the theroy. There are simply too many hints in-game that indicate otherwise. While I suspect that the G-Man IS more than he appears, I doubt that he is the Supreme Being.

Besides, I don't think that God is into pimping out people for "other interested parties."

My own view is that G man does not stand for god, but I guess deviante you have thrown the idea in here to get peoples reaction.

One interesting point that I have not seen anyone comment on (maybe they have) when Breen near the end says "did you know your contract is open to the highest bidder".

Anyway nice to see someone has enjoyed the game and not making comments about it not being as good as they thought it would be, although of course we all have our own expectations.

G-Man was the nick name he was given from the first

Government Man

Once I spent 2 days trying to get the game to work it was amazing. I definitely didn't expect anything less from the creators of the original. The only thing that kind of bugged me are the loading screens. Having said that, I can admit that I don't have a killer machine so that must have contributed to the problem.

I’m not a G-Man=God subscriber, however you bring up a really interesting point with determinism. We have been discussing this previously on the board, without using the moniker of determinism that is. I remember somebody suggesting a similarity between the dune series’ meditation on the subject of free will. It was good stuff.

No, he never had an official name, even from valve. His model in HL1 was just named gman.mdl, so that's what people started calling him, and it stuck.
