keep HL2 installed for AFTERMATH?

i know this is asking ahead but being AFTERMATH is an extension or expansion do we need to have HL2 installed?....got a feeling its a dumb question coz im thinking u need to keep HL2 installed

It seems like a bit of a dumb question, but because people here are used to the
way Valve (steam) distributes games and expansion packs.

An expansion makes use of content that was already created for the original game,
so you don't have to download duplicate files for sound effects, weapons, monsters,
some locations, etc... So it is a good idea to keep the source files (pun intended)
that the later games are built on.
